Just wondering what are your thoughts on a Ford XR6T Club of Australia? I think it would be a fantastic idea and would keep individuality for our cars. We could have meets, trips and other fun stuff such as the other clubs around.

Let me know your thoughts.. and any volunteers in maybe helping to set something like this up :D

There is a "NSW Tickford" Club, The guys there are real keen on their cars.

Maybe it's worth joining forces with those guys???

I think they are taking a vote on creating an joint FPV/Tickford Club. Most of the cars are EF, EL and AU XR's

see http://www.nswxrclub.org.au for more info

As one of the chaps who started up the NSW Tickford Owners Club, let me share a few of my experiences with you! Hopefully I can shed some light on the situation, and bring up some issues you may have not encountered yet.

There are a few issues to broach, in regards to starting a standalone club.

* Firstly, if you are wanting to run the club as a proper (non-profit) incorporated organisation, you will need to meet the criteria and go through the checklist of requirements. This includes setting up a bank account, a constitution, and appointing a board. For any organization that intends on having public events (cruises, drive days, anything really!), then you will also need public liability insurance. If this phrase doesn't strike fear into the heart, then nothing will! This is an absolute nightmare to get, whether through direct payment (forget that!), or through affiliation with an outfit such as CAMS. We (NSWTOC) went this route, as it is really the only affordable way to get this insurance (<$1000 per year). CAMS affiliation comes with it's own set of guidelines, which you must meet before they will accept your organisation. It is not a quick process!

* Secondly, there is the issue of corporate sponsorship and support. FPV has promised support to only ONE club per state, and as it stands, each state is already accounted for. Not a huge deal if you are committed to paying for merchandise yourselves, or if you have managed to get some dealers on board. It will be tough though as most of the Tickford / XR clubs around the country have established relationships with dealers already.

They are the two major hurdles to overcome in setting up a club! (or at least what we encountered!) After that there are a multitude of other things to sort out, ranging from club stationery, to membership cards, to web hosting etc.

Take it from me - don't be scared off by all of this, it is WELL worthwhile putting in the $$$ and time to get a great club up and running!

Best of luck guys.

Mike

Thanks so much for your advice MrSparkle. Are NSWTOC planning on adding or taking on XR6T members? The reason i mentioned a seperate club was due to the fact that the BA XR6T is not a "Tickford" Vehicle and im sure unlike the classic TS50's and TE50's and the like do not want to be part of a "Tickford" group. Nothing against your club at all If I had a Tickford vehicle i would be in straight away. But unfortunately we are a part of the "New Breed" and I think that is why individuality is needed on the club forefront. What does everyone think about my statement?

Not a prob! :)

Yes I can see where you are coming from. For a start, this is the first turbo XR Falcon ever, and therefore is the start of a new era. Also, the car itself is attracting a much wider demographic than the previous XR models, a lot of guys coming from WRX's and the like. These guys generally don't have much of an interest in the older models, whether they be 6 or V8. It is hard to attract these guys to our club, as they probably are only interested in the turbo, which is understandable if you're coming from that background.

As for our club, we are more than happy to welcome in any and all XR owners, be they BA or EB! :D We are currently in a period where members are voting on changes to the club to incorporate & welcome the FPV name and vehicles. In fact, anyone with ANY model Ford can join the club as an associate, whilst full membership requires a genuine Tickford modified Ford. This is all laid out in our constitution, and to amend it requires a majority vote by full members. This is exactly what we are doing at the moment, regarding the changes surrounding FPV. I think so far the vote is overwhelmingly FOR changing to embrace FPV, and this is the way it should be IMO.

By all means, feel free to come and join us on a cruise or meeting, see what we're about, and what we get up to! New members with shiny new Turbos would be very popular B)
