Hmm drive by wire throttle, was always wondering if some day things could go wrong. I mean if your old cable pedal got stuck full throttle you could always get toe of your foot under and pull it up or bang on it a couple of times but drive by wire, hang on for the ride especially in an auto with no clutch.

dont laugh I been passenger in a vlturbo which is failry modified where this happend, and we were going down a hill, its really great when you got a 3500rpm stall working against your brakes. sufice to say the ignition was switched off car thrown into neutral and coasted to a gentle stop, and yeh I would hate to be in that position again.

Hi,

This is a very common fault on cars once the mileage reaches over 30000 or so. The problem is the stepper motor control in the throttle body. The TPS problem can also be to blame, but often Ford will replace the entire throttle body assembly (including the TPS), so the exact nature of the fault is not known.

<snip>

I had this problem myself, swapped the TPS, no difference, only when I change the entire throttle body did it fix the fault. Has NEVER stalled since. Ford have changed hundreds of throttle bodies under factory warranty, so go get em !!!!

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but this is happening to me. 56,000km, out of warranty. Took it to the dealer and they couldn't fault it. Buggers didn't let me know until 4pm, so I couldn't go there and demonstrate it to them. Happens within a few minutes of starting if I'm sitting at the lights, revs normally at around 800, all of a sudden they'll drop below 500 or so and nearly stall (has stalled once). The dealer said there was a throttle body error code, but they couldn't reproduce it.

Anyway, I knocked back their offer to replace the entire throttle body at around $500. Do I have any option though? Should have taken Ford up on their extended warranty....

Simon....

Been having the same problem, only happens when the aircon is on and when coming to the lights. It drops to below 500rpm but then goes straight up. If I've just given it a fang then stop straight away, it usually stalls.

I was going to ask the tuner to have a look at next time it was in for service, but maybe I wont bother as it sounds like this problem.

Also had a problem the other night when it started and wouldnt rev. It felt like it was running on 3 cylinders and the engine light came on. Turned off, started and it happened again. Left it for a minute then started and it was ok?

Weird - I had the throttle body cleaned when I had the car tuned last Sep and have only done 4000kms since.

Dont know what it could be?
