How long ago did you have it tuned. ie. has this only just come on after a few thousand km with edit? Is it the first time you have given it curry with that much weight in the car? What I am getting at is, what has changed recently?

The EDIT has been in for couple of months ~ 3000kms

The difference is the added weight. This is the first time I had 3 adults in the car.

Looks like the extra weight is the cause of pinging.

Poor tune is the cause of the pinging, not the extra weight. It is just the extra weight that has made it noticeable.

It has probably been pinging away with only you in the car however, it may not have been severe and you may not have noticed it.

Pinging really is an engine killer, I would be going for a retune somewhere asap.

Question for the experts here (anyone who has owned a T more than 5 mins I think is the definition on this site). Is pinging brought on more by incorrect timing or also AFR or both?

Yeah detonation ( pinging ) in your case is coming from too much advance timing at around 3500 rpm. This is a high load point for turbo 6s and its usually where detonation will show up most.

Id try it on the 8psi map until you can have it re tuned. the tuner obviously set the advance a degree or so too high and combined with 10psi is causing detonation. If the 8psi tune has the same timing map then it should be fine to run on 8psi under the higher load of the extra bums in the back.

Regardless of whether you decide to go to another Tuner, first thig you should do is ring Intune and tell them your heading down their for them to adjust the tune (probably take out a bit of timing).

Any Tuner should be happy to rectify a pinging tune without delay.

Thanks to all for your rapid responses. I'm contacting the tuner to get this issue resolved.

Until then I'm not taking this beast over 3000 revs may have to put the valet mode. :spit:
