Great engineering on Ford's behalf methinks.....

I actually did run out of fuel I was like 300 metres away to the petrol station. My ute was completely shut down, cant start until there is a fuel in it. So there you go. Best to refill when it is at 20km, for some reason it keeps the tank cleaner n run smoother.

You never know when a Expensive Daewoo could drive by. Such things are not meant to be.

If you thrash your T for half the tank, the DTE may be showing 130km because it's expecting you to keep thrashing it. However you may back off and drive Miss Daisy for the other half of the tank and pull 200km out of it.It is also interesting to note that if you did this, the trip computer would recognise your altered driving for the last half of the tank, but would only adjust the displayed DTE estimate very slowly, so it doesn't appear to "jump around" too much. If the DTE jumped around between estimates every time you gave it a stab, would you trust the reading? No. (The boy who cried wolf...)However if the DTE remains adamant that you can do so many km's before you reach empty, you'll be more likely to believe it. ...and since running out of fuel and having to push isn't something most people look forward to, your're not very often going to push your luck to see if the DTE is right, are you?As for low voltage cut out, I it's just as much to protect the battery as it is to protect the starter motor. If the lead acid battery in your car goes below about 10 Volts (float voltage, no load), you may as well bin it. No amount of charging or conditioning wil return it to its full capacity - the damage has been done. You may well recharge it enough for it to start the car, but it will be less reliable and have less cold cranking amps than its original rating. If you want to rely on your DTE, then I'd suggest that you do this and check how much it takes to fill. But make sure that the tank really is full - it's a pain getting the last couple of litres into a Falcon tank.Recently had to do 25 km after 0 DTE - I was out in the country and drove really carefully to the next petrol station. But I didn't fill up so not sure how much I had left.Remember it's a Really Bad Idea to let your tank get too low - modern fuel pumps don't like sucking air. As soon as the bells start ringing, I pull into the next decent servo.

I guess it works out the average based on kilometeres traveled and must have some way of determining how much fuel your using perhaps on throttle position or something. As teh previous post has stated. Drive hard for a while then drive very slowly for a while and the DTE will increase in response to your average speed. I often take my car to zero but due to surging now I fill up as soon as I can after teh 80km bell chimes. Also after seeing the picture posted of how clogged up that little fuel tank cylinder can be makes me really think I am going to ask for to clean it when I get my next service done. Having large particles cloggin the inlet to the pump cant be good hey Scruff
