Hi,

A mate has just bought a second BA MK1 XR6 turbo and the bearings in the turbo have gone.

Is this a common problem?

What could of caused this?  Mayby the car hasn't been looked after?

Cheers

Not common.

How many K,s?

How often oil changed?

Modded or stock?

These are great turbos fitted on the XR6T but like anything there can be duds but I would think its something else.Other people will elaberate on it im sure

Oh and welcome to the forum

Shell Helix Plus 15w50 works a treat for me... c**ps all over mineral "Magna"-tech. :stirthepot:

If you stick with Ford service oil (they use castrol 15w40 mineral crud) and had 15K oil change intervals then I wouldn't be surprised why the turbo bearings have gone. You're gambling with 15K service intervals with any car, let alone a turbo.

Sorry to burst anyones bubble, but I hardly think is it unheard of :spoton:

My turbo had new bearings as part of my engine rebuild, as TurboMaster told be the bearing on the turbine side (exhaust) was rough, and probably would not last long before either seizing or becoming noisy. Engine had done 78000k's and was virtually like new inside.

And I have heard of others as well

I am running Castrol 10W60 fully synthetic, and will continue to do so, as the oil in these turbos obviously see some severe temperatures.
