No need for the box to go to ze germans ZF Aust are in sydney they have technicians which come out and inspect the faults on these, they will not hesitate to change the auto with a new unit

Faulty seal should be 100% covered under warrenty, stock or modded

Sounds like utter bs. If the car is stock then it would be covered by warranty. ZF would want to see the damage if it did fail though.

I was told

It ran out of Trans oil , through a faulty seal

Box is rooted

Wouldnt a loss of fluid cause a lose of drive before it destroyed the box..?

No oil means no pump pressure so none of the clutch's would engage..?

im going with the BS theory myself....

$17k I wonder where this figure came from, Ford's Microcat still doesn't have any parts or prices listed for the ZF 6 speed auto.

And they probably never will ...

... because Ford have no ability to do any service work on the box - the warranty is completely covered by ZF and as far as Ford or any Ford dealer is concerned the box is just one single parts unit which is replaced as a complete unit if any problem arises.

I beleive that the boxes are sealed for life when they leave ZF - the only thing that is servicable/adjustable outside the ZF factory is the ECU.
