Each other tier steps down 2".Bottom tier of cake is 18" diameter.. Took 6.5 hours in oven to cook. Was a two man lift.. Not just because of the immense weight.. But bulkiness made it hard for one person to move around with.

Apprentice decided that a trolley wasn't necessary to move the four-tier cake from the pastry room to the reception room three floors away. Got in the lift and as soon as it moved the change in momentum made him lose it and ended up catching the friggin cake against the wall of the elevator.Cake was then reconstructed with a bit of sara lee slab cake out of the freezer for the top tier and styrofoam for the rest. Bride and groom didn't know about it until a few days after when it came time to collect the leftovers. They were mighty pissed but grateful they didn't know on the night.

Been called in to fix a few.. Never an apprentice or a chef though.. Always wait staff who have to move the cake or setup people positioning the cake..
