Hi Guys/Gals

I currently own a 2005 cv8-z Monaro,6 speed manual.

I have been a Expensive Daewoo follower since I knew what a car was,My questions are the following. (as I have no idea of models or issues with each model)

1/ will the 5 speed manual handle a slightly worked BA M1 XR6T (as the ford salesaman is telling me it wont handle as much power as the 4 speed auto)

2/ the car I road tested today sounded like it had a taxi diff/driveline

Is this a normal falcon sound (as it did sound like a taxi)

3/ is there any real benifit spending the extra cash and buying the BA M2 XR6T ?

Cheers

Darren

As for the "T" its best car I have owned, so much fun.

I have an 04 stock 5sp manual currently running 208.3 rwkw

Good to see you leaving the dark side :stirthepot:

Hey mate...

Are you looking for a manual or auto?

If you are looking for a manual then MK2 is by far and away the way to go... NO a T5 will NOT handle any extra power than stock long term... I have a MK1 XR6T and have swapped to a T56 6 speed in the last few weeks and I got out of it very cheaply, costing me only around $4500.00 including fitment with new clutch and flywheel... but some guys are spending up to $9000.00 to get the same thing in their car...

A couple of things to note, the auto XR6T's are quicker in a straight line than the manual's as a rule... I just believe that the manuals are more fun to drive...

What has made you wanna switch? Interested as I too swapped from Expensive Daewoo to Ford... only 8 months ago... and there is no way I would look back, this has been the best car I have ever owned. My last car was a HSV Senator...

And sadly all Falcons have some level of 'diff whine', but if you modify it the turbo whistle certainly makes up for it... :spoton::laughing::spoton:

We have a member here as well named f6jet who is a G&D customer who has just swapped out of a 10sec SV8 in to an XR6T...

Give us some more info as to what you are looking for and we can help you maybe a little bit more...

And how much do you want for your CV8-Z? I have a mate who is looking for one...

Reason for changing is

1/ Hopefuly a little cheaper to run (better bang for buck)

2/ Always thought the BA was a tough looking car

3/ easy to get easy KWs

I love my cv8-z but fuel is going up and up (costing $165/week just getting to work)

I would love to get high 50's for the cv8-z

Im interested in 2 XR6T

1/ Black mk1 BA XR6T 5speed manual (fun to throw around)

2/ Blue mk1 BA XR6T 4speed auto

I cant narrow it down as I love the manual Monaro but wondering if the auto or manual is better in the T

Cheers

don,t forget the T has tiptronic style auto, iknow it,s no manual but it helps when you want to play

Remember that if you go auto you'll only really be steering :stirthepot:

Do you plan on racing the car down the quarter mile? Very important question, I know it may not seem so, but basically ALL of the auto's are quicker down the quarter than an equivelant manual...

If you are looking for a T, having had a T5 manual, with the express intention of not modifying it, but then going against that and going down that path, I can only recommend that you look at the MK2 (T56 six speed)... if you are looking for an auto 4 speed, then make sure you get premium sound, leather and sunroof (same for the manual as well)... these are all things I don't have, and wished that I did...

To give you an idea of what I have spent to get over 300rwkw... which if you modify your existing CV8Z is going to cost you around the 10-12K mark (head and cam, OTRCAI, full exhaust and LS1 Edit)... or around the 12-16k if you want to twin turbo charge your LS1... Supercharger will be around the 10K mark...

I am 28yo, Rating 1 and my car is just over $1,000 to insure full comp a year, with all of my mods listed on the policy, including my 20" wheels...

Nizpro Stage 1 which is bigger injectors, valve springs and Edit ($3495)

Bigger Intercooler (around $500 depending on how far you want to go, I got my F6 Tyhpoon intercooler for a slab of beer)

3.5" Metal Cat ($290 to buy and then $150 to fit)

My car has a 'street' tune of 315rwkw (rear wheel kilowatts) which equates to about 530HP at the flywheel...

So for under 5k you will have a 300rwkw weapon of a car, and if you buy an auto it will be capable of something in region of 11sec qtr mile times...

How does that sound?

out of the 2 cars you are looking at I would get the auto, as it is cheaper to strengthen that then to replace the T5.

Try looking around for a early manual MK2 as they should be pretty close to a mk1 in price but are worth the difference because all you need to do to the t56 is change the clutch

The mk2 also have stronger valve springs then a mk1 so again you wont need to change them as early as if you would a mk1 (possibly saving you 1k)
