A few members have been asking where I've been......

working on my other passion.... a classic from the 60's.

The ute came in very handy for rapid delivery runs.....

Looks and sounds fantastic.

What are the specs of that engine/tranny, I see a lot of fancy bits there

After doing the mods to my ute, and loving the power (300rwkw in the ute) the vette was feeling very lethargic.

I didn't enjoy driving it like I used to. Thought about selling it.... but then made the decision to give it a transplant ..

Motor is a late model 4bolt chev stroker- 383 cubes.

slight split duration hydraulic roller cam - 242* intake /240* outlet @ 0.050 with 0.594" lift

Edelbrock alloy heads (E-tec 200) with hardened seats, stainless steel valves and roller rockers

(good for unleaded (premium) fuel and low zinc oils we have now). Static compression ratio is 10.3:1

Edelbrockheads.jpg

Custom made 1.75" tri-y extractors and a 2.5" stainless twin system.

There's an Edelbrock rpm airgap (dual plane) manifold with a Holley 4150 double pumper... 750cfm

DSCN1532.jpg

Motor is rated at 475hp / 465 lbft. I had it on the dyno trying to sus out issues with the original supplied Edelbrock AVS carb (800cfm), and pulled 310hp and 365 lbft at the rear wheels. Wasn't happy, and couldn't get it to run right with that carb.... so ditched it and fitted the Holley. Only did a base tune by ear, and it's running much better.

Vette weighs 3300lbs (~1500kg) and I'm still running the stock 3 belt drive system for cooling fan, alternator, power steering pump and A/C compressor.

Need to get it back on the dyno now that it's loosened up a bit for some power tuning....

I'm sure there's a few more neddies to be released :)

I had a TH400 auto trans in it previously, but pulled it out to put in the TKO-600 5sp box

Had to fabricate the clutch pedal assembly and installed a hydraulic setup using an internal hydraulic throwout bearing.

Pain in the backside to get right, but very neat and now works exceptionally well. reasonably light pedal pressure, yet grips.

The box is modified with an offset gear select adaptor, to allow the gear lever to slot through the original position in the vette console. Made fitting the gearbox reasonably easy.... And car still looks quite stock, which is the way I like it.

On the road the vette has completely changed its character.

It was an easy to drive country cruiser with the original 327 and slush box.

Now it's an awesome adrenalin pumping eye popping beast which requires some self control... I love it.

It even gives me better fuel economy too.... I used to get 12 mpg.... now I'm up to 17~18 mpg around town.

I don't think it's as quick as the ute yet ( traction issues), but it sounds damn good and keeps me grinning....

Well he did end up selling in and he does regret it, bought a xy to try and fill the gap but it's just not the same. A GT is a GT.

If you don't have to sell it mate don't.

xa-mont....

The 4 door XB looks very much like the one I had...

I had a GS 302 manual, sandstone beige, with brown vinyl roof.

Bought new, but I only kept it a couple of years...had quite a few problems with it.

Diff and gearbox mechanical issues and suspension and steering squeaks... Ford QC wasn't very good back then.

Swore off Fords for a long time..... till the BA XR6T was released.

But don't sell the 2 door XA.

They look tuff as nails on the road, especially with some good sized boots on the rear wheels.

A real old skool muscle car stance.

:innocent:
