I would personally take a new twin turbo porsche thanks!

Ohhhh, dunno, the next gen 911 GT3 RS looks the goods. Especially if the last model (997) is anything to go by. A friend in New Zealand says it creams his Audi RS6, such a pure car! :msm:

As a matter of interest what does a genuine 1960's GT40 run for? Either the small blocks or the big blocks? Not nessecarily the Mk IV Gulf cars or anything just a 'regular' road goer Pommy GT40?

I believe there's a few genuine ones here in Australia.

F6Rapid if you're not picky, then Im sure you don't mind giving me your F6 when the 911TT comes? :spoton:

In defence of Ford, the GT was built mainly to sell into Europe and the US.  Only 28 cars (all LHD) were allocated to the UK

correct if wrong but I thought UK was a right hand drive country?

Yes - but most of Europe is left hand drive, Britain (whilst now part of Europe) is right hand drive.

Watching TopGear - the cars that they tested / had were left hand drive cars.

RHD - Britain, New Zealand, Australia, Japan and sundries - most of the rest are LHD.

Yes you are correct, the UK is a RHD country but the 28 GTs were all LHD simply because they made no RHD's.

There are a few genuine GT40s around - all of which if genuine are collector's pieces esp if the drivetrain matches the chassis number.

PS I agree with Turbotom - converting a collector's item like a new GT into RHD is akin to buying a Aston Martin DB9 and getting someone in Blacktown to cut a hole in it to put one of those nasty glass sunroofs... or dropping it and putting some chromies on it - some folk might like it that way but I prefer my Single Malt Scotch, unalderated with such things like mixers, ice or even springwater...

Besides which if you want a track car there are faster, cheaper (and cheaper to repair) alternatives that a genuine GT... like a good replica or even a specialised track car.

Yep. Jeremy Clarkson of "Top Gear" fame waited three years for his GT to arrive. Apparently it broke down just after he took delivery of it as he drove it to the Top Gear studio for that night's show...

As for the Supercharged 5.4 litre V8 - it's out of the F150 Lightning and bears more than a passing resemblance to the Boss 260/290 engine (ala XR8 and GT)... the trouble is chassis and transmissions.  The ZF box is only rated to 600Nm (and even the F6 is closing on that number) and I don't imagine the Tremec would be able to handle a supercharged V8's torque either - and despite the BA/BF rear being a lot stiffer than the AU, you'd really have to wonder if it is up to handling 700+Nm of torque.

The supercharged engine is not from the Lightning, the Lightning was a 2 valve version of the 5.4 that has been discontinued in favour of the current 3 valve. The GT has a similar architecture to the Boss engines but is dry sumped, alloy blocked and modified further for more power and durability.

The ZF is rated to 650nm and there are versions that are rated to 800nm that have been used in BMW V12's etc. The Tremec 6 speed is also available as a higher rated version as used in the Viper which has over 700nm. Its not the trans options available that is the problem its the diff, which is why the F6 is only kept to 550nm, just inside the diffs long term durability rating. I've heard a few stories that the supercharged V8's are ready to go for Falcon, but for some reason they haven't been made available yet. Maybe they are waiting for the new model to fit them. Wether that is 100% true or not I can't confirm.

youd have to wonder why aus cant allow such a car to be able to be registered and driven as a LHD.

surely a person who could afford to buy such a car would most likely be a successful business man and therefore have the brainpower to drive a left hand drive car in a right hand drive country.
