There is a process.. albeit expensive, that 'melts' the clear coat.

A few guys have used it on jap import GTR's which have suffered from acid rain from Japan..

Basically, the clear is heated to a point where it fills the swirl marks, but not that it runs.. Leaves a perfect, glass finish..

I have the same issues with my Vixen.. shows up pretty badly.

maybe a very gentle cut will get them out.. I might try it.......

also, wax your car, don't polish it.. :)

3M finish polishes are the only ones to use. MY 04 XR6 Shockwave was like new when I traded it in, not a swirl on it!

Use the cutting compound for heavy swirls or the Finish it glaze for light ones, and yes ull need an orbital buff, what do you expect to do with hand rubbing?? To remove them you have to take away some of the clear coat so that's going to mean using something abrasive and hard to do it.

Scratch X Is garbish, you get light swirls and it takes away the shine of the paint.

I thought the more the clear coat the less chance of swirl marks as when abrasive materials are added it then eats away the clear coat and swirls marks appear

Im confused :stirthepot:

I only use a wool mitten to wash the cars, but still get light marks that you still see in the paint. I get my cars detailed every 6 months and he masks the car up and uses an orbital to apply the polishes and waxes which takes about 8 hours. the cars come out absolutely perfect under both natural light and fluros. The way the cars come out of pre delivery is very poor, clear coat protections are a waste of time

What colour is your car?

The ford is red but I have 3 black cars

Whoa, with the scratch X! while it is a good product it is more abrasive that I would like to start with. It sounds like you may benefit from a paint cleaner (make sure it is non- abrasive), though they are supposed to remove oxidation... I use scratch X to smooth the stone chip touch-ups, and it never fails to dull the area a bit, that's with hand application. :smilielol:

I think that a good wash and a high-quality synthetic wax may be good for your need, a good wax will fill the swirl marks, and add a layer with a smooth outer surface, giving good 'lustre', and some protection. natural waxes look 'wetter' but generally do not last as long. Lots of good waxes will provide sufficient clenaning while applying not to require seperate "cleaning" stages, such as clay bar or similar.

A layer of wax over the stone chip areas where I have dulled with teh scratch X always helps and the feeling of washing a recently waxed car really is nice. I got my first layer of wax on within 2 weeks of delivery and it did improve the paint appearance, even then. :smilielol:

I have a strong preference for adding layers to the paint by waxing rather than removing layers by polishing, but no doubt there is a point where a polish will required. :smilielol:

Anyway congrats on maintaining a black car for this long.

also the car had the sentry paint protection done from new and its showing line like you can see where the polishing has stoped all in different spots(hard to explain properly)

My question is how can I get the paint  back to the way it was delieverd as I dont know what more I can do

that protection sh#t actually enhances the swirl marks mate

I had mine removed on a late model 05 by a black car detailer specialist($800) for when I was doing car shows and drag meets.. he came from the mercedes detail centre in germany and he was good.. he showed me the diff between paint protection swirls and normal paint swirls.. and you cant get paint protection of very easy, hence the bill.. worked the car for 18hrs getting it mirror finish and used only zylol(?)swedish brand.. had a $4000 tub of wax finish like the guy on topgear! hand application only :spoton:

So many people have such differing advice who knows the proper answer? Even car detailers have different "special" methods they swear by.

You know how old my T3 is mate and the paint has had a hard life in comparison to most. ALL country miles - ALL at high speed. Stone chips and bug stains galore! I've had the bonnet, front bumper and side skirts painted once already. And they need doing again!

However there are no swirl marks in the paint. Maybe because I NEVER polish it. I also will never allow dealers to sell their aftermarket paint treatments to me. I just wash the car, separate sponge for the wheels is the only concession it gets. As I chamois it dry I use Eagle One "Wax-As-You-Dry". And that only gets used on the horizontal surfaces so not even below the door handle level of the car - I'm just such a lazy b@st@rd! I only wash it when needed - that can be three times a week or once a fortnight.

I know none of this particularly helps you now that you have swirls, but it has worked for me in keeping them at bay, so maybe it will work for you after you can get them fixed. Now, go see a detailer.
