Did you buy it from chris @ ozstick?
Yep, thanks again for the tip
now all you need is the touchscreen membrame
You're dead right!!! I've tried using a wireless mouse and a wireless trackball, but neither of them will work on the road. Touchscreen is the only way.

The only touchscreen overlays I know of at the moment are these -

- I-On Systems Website

- Digital Worldwide Website

It can wait for a while though, I have thousands of songs so all I do is start it playing before I drive off and let it go

How much would it cost to set one of these carputers up
Depends on what exactly you want. If you want a powerful, fast carputer with huge storage and all the extras (wireless internet / 5.1 Sound / TV Tuner / Touchscreen / Multiple Monitors / Multiple sound systems / GPS / OBDII) then it will cost you more than a carputer that only plays MP3's.

In my opinion though, I wouldn't build a carputer just to listen to MP3's.

and who can do it?
I started reading about this whole carputer thing about a year and a half ago - before I had bought the BF!!

I read about a million posts, and made about 2 million posts and learned. I wasn't sure about some things so I asked and researched and tried.

To answer your question "who can do it" - you can if you want to.

How complicated would it be to connect a simple dvd remote (for example) through the I.R. at the topp of the ICC?

And if you were running dvd's or windows media player would this then interface with an IR remote?

just a thought that's all...

I believe the factory one is only an InfraRed Receiver, so I have built an InfraRed Transmitter / Receiver.

Since doing that though, I have found a pre-built InfraRed Transmitter / Receiver from here which would be a whole lot easier, and would do what you suggest.

It would not function as a mouse though.

where u install the pc in the car

I've currently got it just sitting in the boot like this -

Carputer_from_boot.jpg

(it's got velcro on the bottom to stop it sliding around)

It is small enough to go inside the spare tire when I have finished playing around with it, so that is its final destination.

The battery in the boot is not the cars battery, it is a 7mAh battery which supplies the PSU if the car is off

Carputer_battery.jpg

It is charged only when the car is on, so if I forget to turn the carputer off, it will only kill the carputers battery, not the cars battery

There are quite a few places that will sell the complete unit, new or secondhand -

- I-ON Systems

- MP3 Car - Store

- MP3 Car Forums - For Sale Section

- Digital World Wide

Or, if you have a decent understanding of computers you can buy the bits and build it yourself -

- Ebay

- Aus PC Market

- Umart Online

- Digital World Wide

These are just a few websites I have used myself, there's sure to be thousands more.

Check the websites in the above post - anything from $500 - $5000 depending on what you want.
