No Simon, it's not a turnaround, rather, a matter of calculating the cost of the modifications vs change-over value. For example:

XR6T engine upgrade - $4.5k minimum plus fitting and tuning.

Valve spring upgrade - $800 labour plus parts.

Clutch upgrade - $1500

Trans upgrade (if 5-speed manual) - $6k approx, excluding clutch kit

Brake upgrade - $2-3k for BA Performance brakes (non-Brembo)

Suspension - $1500 - $2000

And so on, and so on. Doing some quick arithmatic your easily forking out $17,300 to upgrade the XR to F6 spec. And then you still don't have the FPV branding and build number.

So in my case, changeover represented better value for money than upgrading the XR  And need I say how much better I consider the auto over the 6-speed manual.

I'd rather the genuine FPV than a modified XR. But that's my opinion only.

And my car has cloth trim and no premuim sound... so add those on too to that list you have written up.

And if it does have to go to Ford for work the apprentices aren't allowed to work on them...

That's a huge plus for mine... not that my car will ever go back to a Ford dealer for anything... :spoton:

firstly, if you are going to spend 33k for an 03 xr6 t you are getting ripped off. similar age t's are selling privately for a lot less. 25k to 27k is the norm now. maybe you have to go to a dealer, I do not know.

secondly, you seem to have some mod money $20k worth so from what I have been reading on here you could get a t to rip the doors of a typhoon and still be a daily driver thus saving you thousands.

the bf typhoon I think would be out of the price range so I am assuming it is a ba you are comparing.

I would get the ba t over the ba typhoon, the bf is a diff proposition as I would get the new auto with it but you are after a manual.

so the t gets my vote.

Scanning local car yards, it seems I can pick up an 03 XR6T 6 spd for around the 33K mark. For 20K more, it seems I can drive away in a similar aged FPV Typhoon.

So for me, this poses a dilemma. My plan is to buy an XR6T and spend about 20K on mods from engine to suspension and brakes. But have FPV already ticked those boxes for me? Do I really need to spend 20K on a stocker when I could just save myself the time?

The only prerequisites I have are for the vehicle to handle & stop exceptionally well, plus the abilty to make 400rw ponies all day long on fairly conservative boost.

Your opinions, gentlemen....

no its not worth it :spoton:

Depends how fast you want to go, and how fast you wanna stop.. 400rear wheel HP (approx 300rwkw) should be achievable w/ only injectors, exhaust incl cat, fuel pump, & tune. Prob about 4-5 grand, depends where you go. But if you want more power than this, then obviously alot more bigger IC anyway, internals etc, and the stock anchors on the mk2 phoons although great, are NOT that brilliant compared to after markets anyway so you are talking another that much again on some mean anchors. So like I said, I think if your gonna go crazy, then either will do, if just mild then Phoon IMO.

If money is easy the Phoon without a doubt, or TT a GT :spoton:

Cheers!

I also agree with comments that the F6 is worth the extra over a XR6T.

But I think that warm_export is asking if it would be better to get a 33k XR6T + 20k mods = 53k or get a 53k F6 and leave it at that??

If you were to buy an F6 and just leave it stock then I find it hard to see how it could be better then an XR6T with 20k worth of mods??

On a side note, the 6 speed manual was only available in the MkII onwards (late 04). For a daily driver and one that would a lot faster, the auto is a much better choice over the manual. It takes a lot of power and good skill to get a manual into high 11s, on the other hand the auto do it with ease and with less power.

I believe you would never regret the decision if you got an F6

Dependant upon the XR6T.. You may regret it for a very long time........

as others have said if you got the xr6 and spent 20k on engine and brakes you would be somewhere around the 500rwkw(?) mark, if you spent 53k on the phoon you would still be around the 230 rwkw area so depends if you want outright power or the overall pleasure of the "luxury" car

to be honest, Im not fussed about power figures. If it makes around 400 at the treads, reliably, then I will be happy. Im aiming for a competent, overall package, capable of hosing the odd Clubsport, whilst remaing easy enough for the missus to drive also. Im a big fan of individuality...so at the moment, Im slightly in favour of the XR6T + customising to my taste....but who knows, one drive in the 'Phoon may be enough to sway one's mind!

:stupid:

It all depends on what you want.

FPV badge carry some prestige and if you are not worried about the $$ then get one :tease:

XR6T leaves you with heaps of room to 'individualise' while still having a nice daily driver, as long as you don't mind being badged a 'tranny' :spoton:

I have chosen to hang on to my 2002 'T' with leather. Premium Audio etc, and have fitted an AWC 'GT' body kit with a Typhoon spoiler, as well as a number of other appearance 'mods', and I am going through a major power upgrade at the moment, involving both the engine and transmission.

If you enjoy playing with the 'T', and you have the necessary skills to do so, then I would definitely get an XR6T save the money on purchasing, and pour them into some serious mods.

To compare a Typhoon engine with a seriously modified XR6T engine is a bit of a joke, and you will have to do internal modifications to the Typhoon as well if you want RELIABLE 400 rwkw.

Now, I am not knocking the Typhoon at all, it is a great car, has the looks, the FPV branding, better resale value etc, etc, but only saying that the XR6T is as good an option if planning to do serious mods :spoton:
