I always owned Holdens before buying my XRT (I owned a Lexcen newport for a few years, but that doesn't count because it was built by holden).

Anyway, The XRT won over a Calias genIII because the rebuilds on the genIII were killers & the Turbo motor didn't really have any major problems, plus the bonus of cheaper fuel costs.

So far I have had only minor problems with the XRT & no problems with the running gear which is important to me.

My most boring post ever....

Yeh had only driven a Expensive Daewoo too, from fuel injected V8s to the VL turbo.

I had a VL turbo berlina 5 speed which I did some mild work to like add an intercooler high flow the turbo etc... and the increase in performance was phenominal.

So I knew straight away when Ford released the BA XR6T that this car would have unlimited potential being a big 4 litre six cylinder....

It is quite obvious that the car responds so well to the most minor of modifications. Its unbeleivable that you can get a near stock car which is driven every day to comfortably break into the 12s with the most basic of mods...

You cant beat turbos for performance and you especialy cant beat a big torqey six cylinder turbo like the XR6T......

...my mates couldn't believe I was even looking at a Ford, they started calling me Lowndesy because I was thinking of switching from Expensive Daewoo to Ford...

Slightly off-topic but Lowndesy was a Ford man prior to signing up with Holden. He used to get around in a Cortina methinks....Hope he wins the title this year....

I swore I'd never buy another ford after many issues with a brand new XB GS Falcon..... got rid of it after 2 years.

Had a string of the generals vehicles for next 20 years:

HZ GTS 4-door, VC Commodore, VL and VR Calais......

Also bought a new '86 Supra which I had till last year... traded it on a Mazda 6 for the missus. 17 years of reliable motoring. Don't think that will happen again.

Always flew the flag for the general, and bought my teenage dream car in 1997.... 1968 Corvette convertible. Red small block auto...

In 2003, I was keen on Expensive Daewoo one tonner. At the showroom I was taken by the SS utes.....

found them cramped in the cabin though, ( and the gen 111 had no low down grunt, not to mention there was a lot of problems with oil consumption issues)

By chance I dropped in to check out all the media mag fuss with these XR6 turbos whilst trying to kill half an hour of time..... took a manual sedan for a blast up through Belair hills roads....

woohoo!

Bought the XR6T ute within a week of that test drive.

funny how you can change your justification parameters quite quickly.

Wife said..... "What the  did you buy that for!!!"

"Cause the colour matched your beautiful eyes, darling!"

no complaints after that.

When your balls drop and your voice breaks you start looking at Fords.

Sh1t.

When my balls dropped I started looking at girls.

you waited till your balls dropped?

first car: 84 vk commo (6 cyl) - still have a soft spot.

second car: 94 vr commo (6 cyl) - never had a mechanical issue.

third car: the turb. more mechanical issues than both previous cars put together but you get that with 300kw. and I LOVE IT.
