Okay it took me just under 2 hours to fit a tweeter in the A pillar, but I wanted to do it right the first time so I didnt have to buy new trim.

But first the rear speakers...

Rear shelf (trim removed)

Stock rear speakers

Old vs New

New ones fitted

And on to the tweeter in the A pillar... I had to kinda trial and error it to get it snug, but it came with a template to cut the hole.

Cheers :smilelove:

I actually ran out of bourbon hence it took me 2 hours to put in a tweeter

For those wanting to replace the rear speakers, get yourself some 10G 20mm Sheet metal screws to replace the star head screws that are in there... they are an absolute :pooh: to get out! I had to use a small socket to fit the head of the screw and a pair of pliers to turn it (clearance to the rear window is minimal).

I also put some of that double sided sticky foam tape in between the speaker and the shelf to provide a bit of a seal and sturdy fittment.

The rest of the fronts will go in on the weekend, I have to study for a :censored: test tomorrow morning.

Oh and I found something interesting this morning. After putting in the single tweeter and connecting it to the crossover, I have alternator whine coming out of that speaker!! It's not actually connected to anything, but a signal is being induced into the wire I have used. I think I know the reason and I'll test it later, the wire I ran alongside some other wires behind the glove box. I'll separate them and see if it makes a difference. Just goes to show sources of noise are not necessarily from the head unit!

that's odd, the earth in these cars must be really strong if a speaker is amplifying noise whilst not conected to a source

Well it was only the tweeter so it requires a tiny voltage to make it "tweet"

I wonder if the coil in the crossover was actually inducing the signal somehow..

Ok here's a question I've often wondered about...

When the ICC is "switched off", ie no music but time & A/C display still up, is the PA in the ICC still running?

I wondered if it might be always on for if you have a mobile phone kit wired in - so if the phone rings it comes through the speakers even if you haven't got the radio on. And what about Sat Nav? do you need to have the ICC on to use it, or is it "independant"?

I know this is kind of irrelevant to your scenario Steve, since your tweeter wasn't hooked up and you don't have premium sound. I've just been pondering this because of the whine I get in mine, which happened after I put my battery in the boot and replaced my sub.

Is your factory sub still connected?

Can you maybe do some trial & error with the tweeter that hasn't been mounted yet? Maybe try postioning it in a few places & go for a drive.

Have you or anyone else ever noticed a specifically when a whine started occuring (eg after I put my sub in)?

Has anyone ever heard a whine in a standard, non premium setup?

Questions, questions, questions... I need answers. We all must have answers. We must unite against the evil alternator whine! :stirthepot:

Well there's only so much you can do about the problem.

As far as running wires is concerned, we all know to run power wires separate from signal/speaker wires. I achieved this by running my signal wires down the centre of the car, and power wires along the door sils. If there is a case where you have to cross a power wire with a signal wire, do so at 90 degrees. This ensures MINIMAL induction (due to the angle of the magnetic field created).

In my case I'm pretty sure I have run my speaker wire parallel to some power wires behind the glove box. I will separate these tonight and see if the sound is still there, cos if it is I need to look further into where it's got "crosstalk"

I dont have a stock sub :stirthepot:
