ROFL Springs

I saw that episode the other day too :sleepystuff:

Yeh he was pretty keen for my business... same guys who offered to let me test subs in the car before buying them.

Went to Mulfords today, got two small offcuts which are both big enough for what I want to do... they are black leathergrain which matches the dash. I was hoping for something to match the ICC but I guess this will do :pinch:

Gave the guy $5 for the offcuts :smilielol:

A little more progress now, I have the plastic to make the facia/cradle for the deck, got it bent for me around the corner for nothing :spoton:

It's not perfect, but in place it looks alright. I think I might colour match it to the dash before I fit it, but the shape is alright. Here's a few pics showing what I made, where it fits in the dash, and how the stereo will sit.

U should be able to see the lines I made on there where I need to cut it out for the deck.

The light reflecting off it makes the leathergrain pattern look really coarse, but it's no more coarse than the pattern on all the dash plastic (ie the removable side pieces) so I think some colour matching matte grey paint should negate that reflection. I held the DVD surround up to show how it will sorta look.

The next step is to add a couple of brackets for each side to secure it in place, and something to stop it from being forced forwards. I will use the two original screw points for the tissue box to mount the side brackets to, and probably make a couple of new holes for some more secure fittings. Then I will be adding the stereo cradle and rivetting it in place.

Made some side brackets out of 3mm Aluminium sheet... light weight and rigid as. Took a little bit of adjusting but I was going by sight...

Inside the space...

Under the facia...

Bracket I fabricated...

All panels fitted...

I'm fairly happy with how it sits, I think I will definitely colour it to match the grey panels. Will see how the deck sits next :spoton: I hope there's enough room at the back :fool:
