Interesting Drive

Hi all,

I had an interesting drive out of Melbourne last nite that I though I would share with you all. I was sitting in traffic not even thinking about trying to get home quicker and suddenly out of nowhere I get a new XR5T fly up on me and sit about a foot of my tail for a few km's.

At that point I thought it was just a focus with spotlights until he pulled up just infront of me in the next lane to show me his credentials. I run a HPF custom tune and have a fairly large HPF sticker on the rear window which normally reduces the amount of people trying to have a go on the road so I was really surprised to have this guy sit on my arse and be so over confident in a focus.

Anyway traffic was fairly heavy and I only lined up at one set of light in pole position, he sat behind me only to be disgraced from about 2300rpm onwards not even close, a standard wrx would pull harder.

Blowing him away wasn't really any surprise for me yet his agression and self confidence to take on a XR6T really did. So anyway it probably won't be long before every kid has a XR5 which will make calder park interesting on a friday nite. :spoton::drool::msm:

They are definately no WRX, just a lil hatchback that is only front wheel drive with a small turbo and sporty looks. Good looking car still.

Saw one the other week on a cruise around southern Sydney.

xr5t - the poor mans ford turbo ??? ( even though they cost a fair bit )

I realise Ford are pitching to a younger market with the 5, but really, what is the point..... why not pump up the 6T as the hero car...... Ford could have done a LOT more marketing & engineering wise with the 6T....

as mentioned here before.... no getting around simple physics..... 4.0 versus 2.x ?

He could have just been curious on how his XR5 would go against the T, If I was him I'd want to know, good or bad.

But then again picking a car that's more likely to be unmodified would have the way to go...

Credit where credit is due,

I'll always show bias to the XR6T, however, the XR5T as a package is awesome, especially when taking into consideration the fuel prices, Australias tendancy to now sway toward a small car market.

The overall finish and refinement of the XR5T embarrasses anything in the locally made Ford line up.

Although the Focus will never our perform an XR6T in a straight line, the way the little bugger handles and makes use of the power available, I was very impressed with.

Personal Review of XR5T

Cheers

Darren

dont matter how good its ment to corner its still a front wheel drive ive owned my share of pocket rockets and rwd cars and I must say I would prefer a rwd tank like my t through a corner over a fwd. Something about it not being a pole magnet appeals to me
