It has a different tread pattern to the PP1, but still retains the same ratings.

AA Traction, 240 Treadwear, A Temperature.

I checked the link - but can't see where you get this traction, treadwear, temperature data from.

I'm interested in comparing a number of tyres and wonder if there is a consolidated source of this information.

You've just about sold me on the PP2....but we all have to undertake the pretence of obsessive research.

They are on the sidewalls of the tyres.

You won't find much info on the PP2's as they have just been released, and I believe Australia is the first to get them.

Here are a few comparisons though...

Dunlop SP3000A has 240 treadwear and A Traction

Dunlop SP9000 has 280 treadwear and AA Traction

Michelin Pilot Sport 2 has 220 treadwear and AA Traction

Pirelli P Zero Nero has 220 treadwear and AA Traction

Bridgestone S03 has 140 treadwear and AA Traction (from memory).

The smaller the treadwear rating number the softer the tyres are. Too small (I.e. Bridgestone S03) and the tyres will turn buttery very quickly, too big and the tyres will be required to warm up a bit more before they get to their optimum traction levels.

AA Traction is the highest you can go, A Traction is next. I've never seen a performance tyre with B or C....

You need to find a good comprimise between treadwear and traction rating. An AA Traction rated tyre with a hard compound will not be as good as a AA Traction rated tyre with a mid range compound. Same goes for soft compound tyres.

For the Falcon, being a heavy car I'd say somewhere between 210 and 250 treadwear will give you best results.

The following US site gives a bit more info, and has ratings for most tyres sold in the US, some of which are also sold here:

http://www.safercar.gov/tires/pages/TireRatings.cfm

However, you will not find the Preceda on there as it's not sold in the US.

Thanks for the info, sounds like the best way to go trawling for all the spec numbers for each brand might not be the internet, maybe giving a few tyre places a call.

Obviously there is a lot more to a tyre than those numbers written on the side - as the Pirelli P Zero has the same specs as the Michelin PP2 - but by the sound of peoples practical experience the numbers don't tell anywhere near the full story.

Can't see why anyone would want S03's on a street car...unless they didn't mind buying tyres every 10,000kms.

Thanks again Cro,

Mildman

Just an update guys these pp2's are ten different kinds of awesome compared to the standard Dunlop’s! Highly recommend them quieter, more grip and far more surefooted in the corners. Initially they feel like they turn in less than the Dunlop’s but they just hold their line so much better!

AAAAAAA+++++++++ great tire
