Needed new boots for the front, and as I found out the other week Michelin have bought out a new version of the Pilot Preceda. Now referred to as Pilot Preceda 2 or PP2.

It has a different tread pattern to the PP1, but still retains the same ratings.

AA Traction, 240 Treadwear, A Temperature.

I've done about 600km's today on them, Kangaroo Valley - Batemans Bay - Goulburn - Bundanoon - Exeter - Mittagong - Sydney so there is a good mixture of Highway and twisty bits there.

So far I think they are a fair bit better than the PP1's, they certainly handled better, and were a lot less noisier. Not that the PP1 is a crap noisy tyre, infact I used to rate it as the best tyre that can fit a 17" rim. Till now anyway.

Apparently the main advantage of the PP2's is increased wet weather traction over the PP1's, but it didn't rain today so I couldn't check that out.

This tyre is available in 17" 18" and 19", and if you can't streach your budget on a set of 18" or 19" Pilot Sport 2's, or you want the best tyre for a 17" rim check out the PP2:

I wouldn't have a clue about the 18's, you'd think they'd be cheaper, as the pilot sport 2's are Michelin's flagship tyre.

I paid $260 for 235/45/17

the bridgestone g3 potenza is probably the best tyre on the market...

2354517 is at about $280

its got the latest duel layer tread...as the tyre wears a new compound comes out and grips for the life of the tyre

you cant beat that...

michellins are nothing

think about it...those who know sydney

and know the james ruse on ramp to the m4 west to penrith turn...

hitting about 110 around that corner in g3s pushing it to 140 and then the tyres start fighting for the grip

20s in cheap sh*t tyres...hitting the same corner at 110 and luckying surviving a crossup all 4 tyre drift around the corner

something to think about

I've tried the S03's which are Bridgestones flagship tyre and they were absolutely crap compared to the Michelin Pilot Preceda 1's, let alone the 2's.

I haven't tried the G3's, but as above the S03's are meant to be better anyway. What are the ratings of them (traction, treadwear)?

Edit: I think I've found them: Traction A, Temperature A, Treadwear 140.

If this is true not only would they only last about 10,000 - 15,000kms, they don't even stack up the the Bridgestone S03, let alone the Michelin's...

What about toyo proxies T1R?

I find they grip in all conditions and were the best on the market at the time last year

But each to their own :msm:

Hey Cro,

You may not remember, but we discussed lighting and tyres when you were in Melb for BVW1, at Geea's BBQ a while back. Anyway.... I'm considering a rear tyre change, I've currently got Hankook K104s in 19s, and while they are acceptable there aren't as grippy as I'd like. On the front they handle quite well and turn in response is at least equal to the original SP9000s. On the rear though, they don't compare to the SP9000s. When new (ie couple hundred kms) they were equal to half worn out SP9000s (ie rear end grip). I know Geea has Michelins on the back of his, and he has the same tyre size as me, 275/30R19. Is this the same tyre ? Craig, please throw in your comments !!

Do you think these PP2s would be suitable. Like I don't really care too much about wear (as long as you get at least 15000-20000km), but I want them to be grippy and still be good in the wet (ie. semi drag tyres need not apply !!). I figure they are probably expensive, but what in life isn't ?

Oh another thing, anyone know any places which offer good prices on these in Melbourne.

Cheers

Robin.

Mate I think the Pilot Sport 2's would be perfect for you. Talk to Geea as I'm sure he'd agree. It is simply the best road tyre out there.

The only problem I forsee is that you would have to import the PS2 as Michelin australia don't bring in a 275/30/19. I assume you have a 9.5inch rear wheel?

In that case according to the Michelin AU website a 285/30/19 will fit on a 9.5 inch wheel but 10 inch is optimal.

Some guys will mention the Yokohama V103's, but I've been hearing mixed reports about them. One such comment mentioned that the Pirelli P Zero Nero gripped better than the V103, and I've tried the Pirelli without much success.

On the PP2 front, they do make them in a 275/30/19, and they do handle really well in the dry. It hasn't rained yet so I can't comment on wet conditions.

Also keep in mind we want our tyres to do different things. I want them to hang on in a corner at high speeds, whilst you want traction for straight line accelleration.
