I've just had a few things fixed under warranty and got a mate to pick up the car for me.

Ford have faxed me the work carried out and on the sheet there something I am a little concerned about:

BA Turbo PCM Upgrade

*Carry out PCM BA Falcon XR6 Turbo PCM Calibration Upgrade

* Carried out PCM Upgrade as per Fords instructions

I've got a Unichip, does this mean they have set the computer back to standard?

Your unichip holds it own program, so does not get written by Fords reset.

However.. Your Unichip works by bending a set of signals to change the outputs from the factory computer. So... as the source signals may have been changed by Ford, your unichip may need a re-tune to get it all tickity boo again. It may also be ok.

I am certain that the last PCM upgrade will cause the unijip to run real rich.

There were several threads a year ago about people having to return their piggybacks as the upgrade made significant changes.

If you drive the car and it is crappy and rough, you will need a tune.

I'll have to actually wait to drive the car to see if its got less power before I can find out for sure. I'll hopefully pick it up tomorrow after work.

If Ford have upgraded the PCM software, how will it affect the way the Unichip works? If its set back to standard, does that mean that with bigger injectors it will just be using way too much fuel for the lesser ingnition advance?

I had planned to get an edit, 968's, exhaust and fuel pump so if it's been set back to standard it may be sooner rather than later.

Ford have a set of parameters - eg fuel flow rate, and the piggback gets the signal that says eg 10% flow and modifies it before sending to the injector - eg 8% flow (for the bigger injectors).

So.. if the new tune was to say 12% flow - and your piggy alters it to be 10% - then yes, you may now be running too rich.

It all depends on what has changed on the standard tune from the version you had, to the version they have installed. As Zap said, some cars had problems with one of the recent flashes from Ford.

If it wasnt working properly - I would be telling Ford to put the old flash back on. That is assuming you dont mind them knowing you are using the piggyback. That would save you having to get a retune.

Your car wont be back to standard. It will be a different standard tune, altered by the piggyback.

They did it to my car a few weeks back - I have the APS phase II kit. Runs pretty crappy now. And when I give it sh*t and it either hits a certain boost level or rev range it will run like crap for a couple minutes as well... very gay.

Getting it retuned next week (ford wont pay for it because they reckon the car is running well and didnt lose any power).

oh and it should be covered by warranty, because I bought the car with the APS kit on it and they said (and wrote down) that everything will be covered by their dealer warranty
