Antisocial Weird Member Member 1,347 Member For: 21y 9m 20d Location: ACT Posted 22/05/06 01:20 PM Share Posted 22/05/06 01:20 PM My eldest son is almost 4 and speaks wonderfully...apart from calling me "a smelly bum head" upon occasion, but most folk who know me do worse than that. And when he was first learning to speak, he would ask what something is and you would say, for example. That’s a THERMOLUMINESCENCE can you say THERMOLUMINESCENCE?And he would have a go, and would usually nail it on the first attempt, or work on it till he got it correct. His favorite word at present is Electric-tity. But his younger brother....At the same age as the first, when told that’s a keyboard can you say keyboard...He would just think for a moment and say...... "NO"....as if to go, no that’s not one of my words. Obviously despite his best efforts he has leant many new words and speaks non stop, in fact in hindsight it would have been a smart move not to try and teach him to talk. But a lot of words still have his peculiar....dialect.For example tonight in the bath he has a bunch of aquatic creature silhouettes that we stick on the bathroom wall and play with, he knows what they all are but when asked what the CRAB was he said something like "BABP"So I said can you say CRAB and he just looked at me and said "I did" Any tips or suggestions? Whether he is learning to a) speakb) mess with your mindc) be funny cause it makes you laughd) Just fit in around the houseDoesnt matter... Albert Einstein didnt speak a word till he was nearly 5.. Not 1 legible word... He later explained that all his thoughts were in pictures and he had no way of relating this to words till he was 5.. The people that lived next door had a boy who spoke in a language no-one could understand, he would run around ranting gibberish and baby talk until he was 4 and went to pre-school, they explained to the teacher that he couldnt speak well (at all really) and upon picking him up that day the teacher responded that he had an excellent vocabulary and spoke well..My daughter (Number 3) is now 2.2 years old and she calls a horse an AFOO... She will not have it any other way, maybe she thinks afoo is a better name for a horse, (which I cant argue with) or she has been re-incarnated from a place where horses are called afoo's, (yes I actually looked up on the web if anywhere else in the world called horses afoo's, no luck)After 4 kids aged from 2.2 years to 21 years I have come to firmly believe that they are born with there personality and they are all different right from the word go. And if all else fails, go back to Garry's Suggestion - Drink more!

When I was little I had issue saying words.. The little bit of skin under my tongue went all the way to the end of my tongue (this causes tongue tie or lisps - which means you cant pronounce S, P's etc etc)They can do minor surgery to cut away some of that skin to allow you to speak normally without lisping (sp?) or munching up words. Then again all children are different. Some learn a little later than others.. Edited 23/05/06 12:03 AM by Bain
