Reminds me of a story....

When George Fury was running around in the FJ20T's, it clearly stated that you needed to run a fire extinguisher.

The rules didnt state where the fire extinguisher had to be mounted.

The rules did not state that you could have the extinguisher "evacuating while driving" id guess you call it.

And also, the rules did not state "where" the fire extinguisher would evacuate to...

So George Fury very well had his fire extinguisher blasting all over the intercooler! Worked all the way around Mt Panourama until the middle of Conrod Straight..... great for 1 qualifying lap!

I like blokes who interpret rules differently..... :spoton:

edition 93 94 and 100 of zoom magazine have articles on this subject.

they tried co2 no2 and dry ice.

dry ice was the winner hands down intake temps of -40 at the start down to -20 half track and +7 in the pits after the run.

easy to do gaffa tape and for sale signs if you want to try it but other people use removable perspex.or stainless steel.

The basic principle relies on expansion of the gas.

As the CO2 is released from high pressure, it expands, and temperature drops significantly. It's the exact opposite effect of why the boosted air after the turbo gets hot. As you compress a gas, it gets hotter...

Mmm....it is actually when CO2 is being stored under very high press as a liquid, and it escapes, it changes phase from liquid to a gas - this phase change needs a lot of energy, and it "draws" it from the surrounding environment.

But your idea is more or less accurate :)
