Hey all, curious to see if anyone knows anything or has had something similar to this happen to them.

Bout to jump in the car, look at the front left and nearly have a heart attack...

Notice a thin crack from a distance through one of the 5 'spokes' on the series 1 18's, upon closer inspection the crack aint that thin and is all the way through the alloy, to the inside of the wheel.

Wheel quickly came off and was given to the dealer.

Dealer sent it to get independantly tested to ensure it was not caused by excess damage (my driving). Comes back, test says "we dont know". Ford says "We don't care" although, I was given a standard steelie as a temp spare.

Have a look at the pic and tell me what you think..

That rim has done approx 50,000ks

I'm sure I would have noticed a knock or pot-hole that would have caused this.

The car was washed about 4 weeks prior and I would have noticed it then, yet there was no apparent evidence of a crack.

Excuse the slight out of focusness!

I would've thought that a crack in the outer rim against the tyre would be caused by a pothole but not a crack through one of the spokes... that looks to be a casting imperfection when the wheel was made...

Can't believe Ford said

Ford says "We don't care"

That is such a rubbish answer...

What are they going to do about it?

Jack :yikes:

Unbelievable :yikes:

This is clearly a sub-standard casting, as I can't see how you could break this with no visible damage to the edge of the rim.

Get stuck into Ford about this, as they should clearly replace the rim, and be grateful that you did not have a major crach as a result of the rim failing totally :kissmy:

I would wonder why the dealer would care and just replace it under warranty. It's funny that some dealers seem to act like they are paying for warranty out of their own pocket.

From the location of the crack, I agree with the rest of the forum in saying that it looks like a casting crack, and you are VERY lucky you spotted it before you were driving on 5 spokes into a wall.

I would tell the dealer it is under warranty and to shut the f..kup and give you some service
