Well, I shall let you know how I go with fitting of DBA 4000 slotted rotors and Race Brakes RB24 pads. I am told that these were the pads that Expensive Daewoo and BMW wanted to use, but because Race Brakes were not big enough like Bendix, Expensive Daewoo and BMW head office wouldn't swing a deal with them. I believe Expensive Daewoo have used them in one off's like for the Hurricane project (whatever that is). Race Brakes make their own pads - so their Aussie designed and manufactured here in Melbourne.

I'm still keen to start a group discount on this - so will let you know how I go and what I think of them. And then maybe we can get a group together to seek a volume discount. Good for you and good for Race Brakes in Melbourne.

I should have said Expensive Daewoo HSV Harrop not "Hurricane project", above, that have used the Race Brake pads as their pads :blush: Also, Subaru STI are keen purchasers of the Race Brake pads. Howard Reynolds, the owner of the company, was telling me how his biggest seller is Race Brake pads to replace the ones that come standard with BA and BF GTP Brembos :spoton: I'll write up more about them soon.

I have posted up on the pinned thread about my dba 4000 slotted rotors and Race Brake RB24 pad upgrade which I did 2 days ago. Special price there for FordXR6Turbo members as I mentioned I would try to get for you guys interested in doing the same upgrade on your BA XR6Ts.

Hi everyone,

Forgive the VEERRYYY late reply but we've just been told about this thread and we wanted to make sure that we at least aswnered the original tech question at some point :nuts:

We've been a little removed from you guys and the forum community lately as we've been busy on a lot of other stuff but would like to make sure that questions like these get covered properly.

Cro, the DBA 4000 and 5000 series rotors are designed to operate around 550°C (Orange heat paint changes) in motor sport conditions. Any extended use above 630°C (red heat paint changes) will unfortunately reduce the rotors life. The cooler the rotor can run, the longer the life expectancy. If a rotor is run at sustained temperature above the maximum continuous working temp of the brake pad then both the rotor and pad life will be drastically reduced.

If you are experiencing an intermittent squeak when driving slowly it can be caused by the rotors being mounted with excessive run out. This can be caused by the hub faces not being cleaned properly or if there's play in the hub bearing(s).

If you're finding that the brakes still squeal it may be worth looking at trying different brand pad options. There are a number of great option sout there.

Just gone and seen my local SuperCheap Auto store for a price on DBA 4000 Rotors and Pads and this was the quote:

Rotors and pads to suit FG XR6 Turbo

DBA 4000 Fronts (42107S) = $280 each

DBA 4000 Rear (4505S) = $180 each

Ferodo Formula Pads = $140 set of 4...(this seemed odd? :huh: )

Bendix Ultimate = $185 set of 2 Fronts

Bendix Ultimate = $161 set of 2 Rear

This is from Innisfail in Far North Queensland - going to shop around maybe Cairns and get some more quotes. Any thoughts on the price (to expensive etc) and other stores would be appreciated.

Thanks for that mate. I assumed the same because in all honesty he kept trying to sell me the Bendix Ultra Premiums (as they had them in stock), took nearly 10mins for me to get across that I would only accept the Ultimate's in the Bendix brand. He really didn't want to quote me on Ferodo so I'm assuming he didn't really "look into" it properly. He then said that he contacted DBA and they said that they would recommend the Bendix over the Ferodo...

In any case, my mate just told me he can get both the DBA's and Ferodo pads - and as we all know, mates rates are next best to the free ones :bowdown:

Just confirming though, the Ferodo pads I'm after should be: Ferodo Formula DS2500??

dba steve would you be able to tell the best pad choice for hard street driving and the track every now and then

front and rear pads please

ive got dba slotted rotors 4000s in the following sizes BF Turbo

Front - 322mm/28mm

Rear - 328mm/26mm

fitted onto a xr6turbo bf 6 speed auto thanks

The DS 2500 are one of the best Ferodo pads and get a great rap on the net for street and track use. To get them for our caliper size (DB1473 front) you need to get them custom cut and made. If you opt for the DS Performance which is one step back they are available in the right size without custom manufacture. I have the DS Performance and they are great.

Hey trevs,

I can't comment on specific pads because we aren’t aligned to anyone and we need to stay independent from the brands, however look into the entry level street-track pads that have come onto the market recently.

You have 3 basic options though. You can get a performance street pad, an entry level track pad or buy a set of each and change them over when you get to the track.

One of the problems with running a full track pad on the road is that the pad will not reach its working temperature range and will struggle to put a transfer layer onto the disc which can cause problems with premature wear of pads & discs, noise and shudder. The flip side is that if you run a street pad on the track you risk ‘cooking’ the pad (working it beyond its temperature range) which can cause hot spots on the rotor, premature wear & cracking of the rotors. All this leading to a decrease in performance and your satisfaction with your purchases.

It may just be that you need 2 sets of pads that you change over when you go to the track, so you can get the best of both worlds. If you go down this path you’ll need to bed the pads in when you change them over, so that the disc and pad work together optimally.

Again cheers for your help mate. I'll be looking at pricing some DBA's again soon (as my new feet have just arrived!) and I do really wanna go with the Ferodo pads. My mate assured me that the local brake shop deals with both of these and is very reasonably priced so I'll pop in and see him early next week.
