Here is a suggestion for all who worry about their cars in the hands of a Ford technician.

What I do is arrive just before they open so I'm the first 1 to see the Service Manager and mine is the first job of the morning. Once the keys have been handed over and signed the paper work I then go and wait in the carpark for the technician to walk out to collect her. Before he even touches the door handle I make myself known as the owner and hand him $20.

I tell him I expect a good job and that the car is not to be scratched. It works everytime and when I return to pick it up its 100%.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Take it from someone that has been in the dealership system and now has there own workshop this sort of thing is actually a turn off for good service mate.

And also the mechanic should not be accepting any money from you.

If they can not do the job without bribes than they should not be doing it at all.

I don't see it like that at all. Its more of a tip and a show of appreciation of his skill.

By introducing yourself to him it puts a face to the car so to speak therefore making him feel more accountable about his workmanship.

I agree with Ian, these guys are suppose to be professional tradesmen, as a tradesman myself I would be insulted if someone thought they had to give me money to do a better job. In fact I would probably by some prawns for lunch with the $20 and stash the shells in his door drim for his effort.

My opionion only :spoton:

Here is a suggestion for all who worry about their cars in the hands of a Ford technician.

What I do is arrive just before they open so I can see the Service Manager alone and mine is the first job of the morning. I make sure I'm unshaven and leave empty shell cartriges lying on the dash / floor. Once the keys have been handed over and signed the paper work I then go and wait in the carpark for the technician to walk out to collect her. Before he even touches the door handle I hand him a dossier, which has his full name and adress, his wife's full name and address and the school his children go to, also it helps to tell him what he ate for dinner last night and I like to back up my desription with photos.

I tell him I expect a good job and that the car is not to be scratched. It works everytime and when I return to pick it up its 100%.

Just my 2 cents worth.

lol

In all seriousness, if the service department can't do the right job then it needs to be taken elsewhere. Since I have been going to Centre Ford I haven't had a problem with their service or pricing.

Wow nothing like starting a debate.

I'm very happy with the service I get from the dealership and this was never an issue. My suggestion was just that you can spend a tiny amount of extra money for a huge gain.

I apologise to the trademen who may be offended by this but again not surprised to hear from those who would admit to intend to damage anothers property.

Thanks for the warm welcome to the forum.

See that shouldnt be the incentive to treat your property with respect. I dunno whether there is a difference in other cities (maybe there is) but for a customer service department their aim is to get repeat business out of you. This should be their number 1 priority, and to do this they should be returning your car to you the same if not better than when you handed it over. I guess tipping is something I have never considered as it really isnt in our culture... where it is in say an american culture... but hey if it works for you then that's great.

Myself, I have shopped around to get the best price and I'm lucky enough to have received good service repeatedly... I can't complain there. I informed my previous service department that they would never be touching my car again in a blind fit... and it's of no consequence to me but it's a kick in the guts for them.

I have had my car returned to me completely cleaned and sparkling after a gearbox replacement, all under warranty. There was no money exchanged there and they went out of their way to make sure I returned for repeat business... it worked.
