I know there is a wealth of info to sift through regarding mods, probs etc and yes I know how to use the search function, but im after quick and more importantly up to date answers..

After speaking to a few people from a reputable performance enhancement centre, I am under the impression that some increases in power/boost are OK by the factory ECU without going into Limp mode... they categorically stated that they have performed work on many a T/F6 variant that do not have an EDIT/FLASH/UNICHIP or the like and none of these vehicles have failed or gone into limp mode, yet they have recorded an average increase of up to 2 PSI with just a catback exhaust and no tune and no limp mode...

I am inclined to believe them as I have had work done there before as have a lot of my mates and the quality of service and workmanship has always been 1st rate..

So I ask the following of the STOCK ECU MAPPED, UN-EDITED, UN-UNICHIPPED and UN-FLASHED (some might also say unenlightened mwahaha) of you out there, what mods have you done to your T/Phoon/Tornado in regards to exhaust, cats, dump pipes, intakes etc;

MODS (exhaust, cat etc) -

GOOD (sound, power increase etc)-

BAD (rough idle, limp mode etc) -

on my first T I had just the centre muffler removed and added a 2nd cai with k&n filter... on a nice cold morning fanging it up the on ramp to get on the freeway the car went into limp mode

I have to agree with Adam. A full catback exhaust generally costs something north of $1200-$1500. For the sake of a 2PSI gain, why would you.

You still void warranty either way

A friend of mine put a zorst on his stock T and it went into LIMP mode all the time from overboosting

I had my hi flow cat installed prior to my edit tune being ready, and I had to drive around with it for a few days. I only gave it a squirt on the odd occasion. Boost did not go over the factory 4.5psi, and I had no limp mode. However, I didnt drive it to redline, or WOT. I think the factory ecu will allow some changes, as it will compensate. For example, a bigger cooler will tell the ecu that it is getting colder air, and it will adjust accordingly. But, you won't get the full advantage of the installed components until you do a custom tune or have the ecu changed.

Just my thoughts!!

I Have a X-force stainless turbo back stainless exhaust, the batteries been moved to the boot, pod filter on drivers side the plumbing changed to allow a bigger 450 300 76 intercooler, turbosmart BOV and never had the thing go into limp mode. had to gap the plugs to stop it running rough, I am going to see Robin at tourqe performance once the plenum mods are finished and get the thing tweaked to its full potential, this is when the injectors go in.

The thing sounds great, and goes hard will stall out to 25/2700 rpm then rev through to around 6000 shredding tyres when driven hard no problem. If it does give me grief one day I'll back it off. I dont have 600 to 1000 to spend everytime I change something if you guys do that's cool.

Why are you paying 600-1000 every time (for a tune I guess you mean)???

yeh sorry mate, I should have elaborated a bit further, my bad!!

its not the 2 psi gain, or any gain for that matter, that I am chasing at the moment, just a nice throaty exhaust note to tide me over until I can go the whole hog with injectors/cat/dump/edit/tune/FMIC etc etc..

I was thinking of getting a nice sounding exhaust that would also have the headroom for later on when I get some 'proper' mods

maybe its a whole luck of the draw type thing, since apache_dj has no probs but your mate does??? fook I dont know, I just want a hell nice sounding engine note but no limp mode

this is similar to what I was thinking after speaking to the performance shop guys, the gains/mods are not fully utilised until the tuning has been done... but until then it should be fine..

The guys down at tourque performance here in NZ quoted $600-$1000 to get the car dynoed and tuned, I assume once its been in for the first tune which will probably take the longest I would get a bill for around 1K for the pleasure and subsequent tunes around the $600 mark. Add that onto the $1400 for the CAPA tuner and the b its for modding the car and gets hell expensive. I will have it tuned I just want to keep costs to a minimum so will try to get it done only once all the things are done. It might bite me on the a$$ one day but so far so good
