Hi all I have been given an intercooler to put into my 03 xr6t was wondering if the intercooler would reduce strain on the gearbox and valve springs once installed... I was advised that this may be the case... The car at the moment has unichip, injectors, 3inch exhaust from the cat back and tuned at autotech with 269rwk, and factory valve spings...Hiddeous and Ninka were kind enough to recomend Kewish. I tried calling Kewish auto's in Melbourne to find out but they must not operate on weekends. I was also advised to see Northmead autos by a couple of people I spoke to yesterday at eastern creek. Cheers Sam

Sam when you fit the intercooler you ought to get it retuned as the engine can now get cooler/denser air into it - and do it more consistently with less heat soak.

I would say there will be MORE strain on the gearbox as you will put out more power. Wouldn't think there will be any difference to the valve springs.

The more power you make the more stress is gunna be put on gearbox. As exahsix said with the new cooler youll have less heat soak and more consistent boost and power.Other than the gearbox I think the valve springs are going to be the next weakest link.. :spoton::spoton:

The car will get a re-tune once cooler is installed. Regards the gearbox I will talk to northmead autos tomorrow to see whats best for the box, old transmission was replaced by ford with a new one only 3 months ago. A little worried with the power increase on the box wouldnt mind cracking 300rwk... Thanks for the responses ford number 1 and exahsix.

Could anyone recommend a transmission shop in Sydney to strengthen an xr6t 03 4speed box to run about 300rwk...? At this stage sending the box down to Melbourne is not possible but may have to consider. Hoping to get away with spending up to $1500 Regards Sam
