A new comer to this, so forgive any mistakes.

Q. does anyone know if the new auto is speed limited. I've owned an EF XR6 & an ELXR8 both manual and they went off the clock with no real hassle, but a friend had an auto and said it was speed limited to 180kpm?

From what I've heard both the manual and the auto are limited to 230kph. Feel free to correct me if you have more up to date info though

Ive read that in a car magazine too.

The XR6T and the 8 are limited to 230. The rest are limited to 200. Don't know about the GT.

Having driven a manual HSV for the last 5 years, I have just ordered an XR6T, but was unsure about the auto manual choice. So I hired an XT BA with auto (I know it's not the same).. And the auto is a sweet box. Changes quick, holds the gears, no lag, a great piece of work. However, it's not a manual. It doesn't feel like a manual. It's just not the same..

A couple of other points. When the auto is in the manual mode, it seems to be a little too far away to have fun. If it was the other way, different story. The other part is that being an auto, you can just forget the gear that you are in and have to look at the dash. In a manual, you don't have that problem.

I drive a car no to get from A to B but because I love the drive. In a manual you drive, in an auto you motor. The cluch may be heavy, and not as efficient, but what fun.....

Have to agree with you edge. I've driven autos before from a VL Vacationer to a Porsche 911 and to me, I'm really only steering the car.

As far as manuals go, whether it be a good gearbox or bad, you still drive the car and control what it is doing rather than interpret what it has just done. Also like edge, I don't drive to get from A to B. I actually enjoy driving. The Mags could say that the manual is utter crap and I would still get a manual I'm afraid. Maybe I'm just stubborn.

I drove manuals almost exclusively until getting my first Explorer, and really enjoyed the skill of driving a kakked-out BMW 318i (1986 model) that had almost no gearbox to speak of! :)

But, after four years of driving an automatic, I'm glad to have the option of the sequential shift: its automatic when I want it to be and enough of a manual for me to have the occassional burn when necessary!
