Everyone who has got in the drivers seat of my car that has never sat in an BA/BF XR comments on the dash and how good it looks... and then asks why there is no redline on the tacho... they all think it's stupid...

And so do I...

Because the redline is variable. If the engine oil and trans fluid (on the ZF trans) is not up to temperature, the redline is lower than normal temps. Also, if the trans gets too hot, the ECU will lower the redline.

Hes right you know....

And when everything is running normal, and you've done about 15 minutes worth of spirited driving (and therefore getting a full 200 point score (look it up)) then you'll get a 6250 redline instead.....

Also note that, in 1st and 2nd gears, the tacho is almost always about 0.1s behind reality; this could be anything between a 50 and 300 rpm difference depending on your acceleration rate and gear.

(so unlike Al to have a chat)

:laughing::tease:

Why is everybody always pickin' on me. Is it a crime to love cars and like to talk about them sheese, get off my back.

Now back to the issue at hand.

I did have a few issues with the 6 speed auto not doing what I had read it was supposed to so I had the dealer look at it on the 3,000km service. Basically it wasn't kicking down as I thought it should under reasonable throttle load when going up hill and occassionally it wouldn't rev out after some spirited driving, once it made a very loud bang when I changed up when this happened.

Anyway I took it in for the service and it's been good ever since. I think they reflashed it with the latest update. Bear in mind that mine is an early build (No. 61) so I just figured they were still sorting them out.

As for first gear I find it very difficult to judge the best shift point when in manual mode under acceleration, it just seems to rev out so quickly and sometimes it does seem to be a little slow (at the same revs) to change into 2nd. Maybe that's the variable redline cutoff at work I'm not really sure.

As for the point accumulation thing is there a way of knowing how many points you have at any given time? I have experienced the 6,250rpm cutout a few times it's quite surprising when it does it and your not expecting it.

Must go now no more time to chat, I've got to get some beauty sleep before the FPV Drive day tomorrow, er I mean today. :tease:

Night all.
