Hi Guy's,

I have found this thread very interesting. At present with factory tune, my T runs faultlessly @ 6psi. With CAPA's generic 8psi tune it actually peaks @ 11psi, and with the 10psi tune @ 15psi. The boost is very eractic with the needle all over the place.

Could this actuator/spring be my problem?

With reference to the first post/question regarding wether a retune would be required ofter fitment of a new acctuator really depends upon how the tune is at the moment, I will assume two things in regards to your car and tune.

1: your car was not holding boost higher in the rev range (3500-6000rpm), with boost slowly falling away no matter how much boost you asked for on your tune.

2: your tune would then have boost request set at 100% or very close to 100%

If the above tow are correct, you will need a re-tune, as your new acctuator can now hold more boost, anf you are requesting 100% up the top, you could end up with 20-22 psi boost.

I had the same with both mine and Muzza's car, low boost over 3500rpm, dropping off from 14 down to 11 psi in mine and 9-10psi in muzza's.

we both fitted new 8psi acctuators from turbo tech, adjustable, and went for a run, look out 19psi of boost.

we both had 100% boost request from 3000 rpm, and hence had to retune.

both mine and muzza now hold a rock steady 14psi, dead flat line, no peaks or holes, the ARF are the same now, we can wind in more boost but dont get more power as now the valve springs think its time for a rest, so now they are next on the list.

in short, if you have had a 100% boost table on your old tune you will need a new tune.

PS: why did you go a 12.5 psi acctuator, my 8psi unit will hold 18-19psi easy, and give nice low down (low load) control, no light switch style boost control, I think that a 12.5psi may be a bit much down low, as no matter what you ask the boost controler to do, it CANT dump boost until you have 12.5psi, which on a wet road, trying to take it easy is alot of boost.

Best of luck.

Nope that's just how the tune is... the initial boost level will be higher than the constant boost level... this is to just get your torque curve up early. Mine is exactly the same...

Wrong, there should be no spike in boost, especially if the customer only wants 10psi and is seeing a 5 psi spike over the desired boost.

That's simply bad programming causing a lack of boost control Steve. Most of these cars need custom programming to control boost correctly. Anyone that says different is talking

It's not an actuator problem causing the boost spiking Garfield.
