The Ultimate Sacrifice & The Ultimate Stuff Up

Tough one,

Don't know what really to say about the actions of the family. All I can say (not having a dig at anyone) is that no one knows what it would be like to recieve a visit or telephone call saying 'your son was killed' due to REASON A.

To digest that, prepare for the returning of the body, to then find out that it's the wrong body. The grieving and emotional toll would start all over again.

Then to find out that REASON A wasn't true and that REASON B is clouded by smoke and mirrors.

All I want to add is that there is no way an army commando would shoot him self in the head while "cleaning a LOADED pistol..." sounds like someone else shot him or some other "accident."

Shocked to hear about this to.. Bit of a disgrace that it could happen but why is it John Howards fault, was he the one who loaded the body into the plane, the guy can't be held responsible for everyones actions.

The story going around town now is that he had "Family" issues and took his own life, whether this was the case who will ever know, but Id say it could have well been something to do with depression... Whether that's the Governments fault or not is another story.

Only way a browning could do that would be if there was a missfire in the breech that cooked off later. But I can't see that.

I think he shot himself....deliberately or not, I don't know.

I don't like thinking that way sixfan, but I thought that when I first heard it on the news.....I don't have the facts though.....but these things always get called accidents.

I have seen accidents happen with weapons first hand on the ship I served on whilst in the Navy, they do occur!

Other than that anyone who has been there will understand this....

1. As a serving member of the defence force you are just a number, you have the say of a number and you are treated like a number. (they certainly don't give a sh*t about your mum!)

2. If you were in the zone before the War on Terrism started and after, like me, you know that not all is what it seems. (Anthrax Vacination....... I'd like to stick mine right between little Johnny's eyebrows you lying f*ck!)

3. You love your job, but you can't wait to get out! (I did after getting cashed up!)

4. Your mates keep you sane.

Unfortunately, it seems that they are now reporting that he deliberately shot himself after receiving an e-mail from his wife.

Kovco alone at time of shooting: report

But yeah, army logistics can be an amazing thing. I remember a character who lived halfway between Sydney and Singelton (in the Hunter Valley) and was scheduled to attend a course at Singleton. They paid for a cab fare from home to Newcastle, flight from Newcastle to Sydney, so that he could catch a coach from Sydney to Singleton! Return trip was the reverse! Would have been heaps cheaper (and quicker) to take the taxi direct to Singleton. Okay, so not strictly logistics, but you get my point.....

Unfortunately, from the very moment I heard that story I had a strong feeling he done it himself. I work with firearms everyday and a firearm is always pointed in a safe direction, and even when cleaning, the firearm is unloaded, cleared, checked, and then stripped down to make it dysfunctional.

Any trained person would follow this procedure as second nature. Before I pick up any firearm, I unload, clear and ensure for myself that the chamber is clear of a round.

In saying that, when playing with firearms, accidents do and will happen! I guess its just a way of minimising the risk. I saw a good clip of a firearms instructor in the US of A of course, and yep, he shot himself in the foot while doing a class :spoton:

Still, its shocking that there was a mix up in bodies.... that just shouldn't happen!!!
