I am looking to purchase an IBM X41 tablet and was wondering if anyone could recommend somewhere I would be able to get a good deal? I am considering getting one from the states through eBay however I would much prefer to buy one that's already in the country.

Has anyone had any experience with slates/tablets? If so, what are your thoughts?

Cheers,

Chris

Best tablets I reckon... I used to fix IBM tablets a few years ago when telstra used them (Maybe still do ) and they are pretty tuff and reliable...

Maybe try any ingram micro (used to be tech pacific) resellers they have them...

We have a IBM, Toshiba, Acer and a sh*tbox Compaq and I must say the Acer and the IBM are the best, Toshiba isnt bad either..

We have the smallest IBM laptop you can get with the 8 hour battery, its a year old now but it still great piece of equipment, although it doesnt have wireless or a built in rom which can get annoying..

Thanks..I was tossing up between the IBM or the HP TC1100...The HP is smaller, but the IBM has more features. The two most important factors for me are size (smaller) and being able to view the screen outdoors. Unfortunately, not too many tablets seem very capable outdoor...Any feedback on the IBM tablet screens in sunlight?

The X41 tablets are great. Have been using them for a while, they are sturdy and built for the sales warrior. I have seen and used the tablets from Toshiba etc and found them to be too heavy and i didnt like the screen size or screen quality. Ahh well! I would go IBM hands down.

Thanks for the advice....

Bennywhite that website is a big help, cheers!

Chris..I am tossing up between the HP TC1100 and the IBM X41..How is the screen on the IBM in sunlight? Is it still readable? So far I have only heard good things about the thinkpad series....I'm can get one from the states (through eBay) for about $2500 or about $3500 from a local shop...Am leaning towards eBay, due to price, but am fairly reluctant about handing that much cash over eBay....

cdm - just be careful of overseas purchases as they may not be covered by warranty in Australia - some do an "international" warranty that does, but just read the fine-print.

Also the power pack will have an overseas plug (EU/US for example) that means you'll have to track one down here too...

Personally I'd prefer the HP from your shortlist.

I'm not a fan of the IBM devices, but that's a personal opinion of course!

Each to their own - all the vendors and products have pro's and con's.

Go with whichever one you reckon looks the coolest! :stirthepot:

Although I'm now also considering (hang on a sec while I put the Nomex suit on) a dual-core 17" Apple MacBook Pro running Windows XP and OSX natively... :)

Not a tablet, so not entirely useful comparison, but hey.
