He swears by them. I will be doing the same in about a month's time. Mal wood, as you all know has a great reputation, so I couldnt imagine them putting something out that wasnt a smicko unit. But like everything, it's all about personal choice and talking to others to get a feel of whats right for you.

I have to laugh at some of the shifters that are advertised as having a straight gate system that allows you to just push the shifter straight forward and it goes into 3rd gear!!! What a load of Just think about it if you push the gearstick straight forward it will go into 1st wont it!!!!! The whole idea of offering a Short throw shifter for a street car is to give a product that is 1... quiet ( some shifters do not have sufficent insulation and are like a tuning fork with gear noise coming up the gearstick ) 2...stronger side gate spring action to give sharper return through the gate 3... a higher pivot to give the short throw 4...it MUST be a quality unit that will give long term reliability 5... it also must be cost effective. I believe that we offer all of these at a price that is hard to equal. Mal Wood
Typhoon Ken Member 5 Member For: 18y 6m 22d Location: Brisbane Northside Posted 20/08/06 12:22 AM Share Posted 20/08/06 12:22 AM G'day All,Well I am out of the shadows. I have been a lurker here for a while now and have gained a huge ammount of info from the Modification Forums (thanks everyone). For the record I have a 05 BA F6 Typhoon: - Exhaust, 42 lbs Injectors, 044 Bosch Fuel Pump, Haltech Interceptor, K & N Filter, Turbosmart Kompact Duel Port BOV and as of yesterday a Mal Wood Short Throw Shifter. It is this that has made me post here for the first time. Oh I better do one more bit of house keeping. I am the President of the XR6 and XR8 Club of Qld and Mal is a sponsor to our Club but that has absolutely no bearing on the following endorsement. As I said yesterday I and 3 other Clubbies made the trip up to Mals in Warwick from Brisbane to get the shifters fitted. The end result, and I am sure the others wouldn't mind me talking for them (they are unlikely to come here as they drive those other cars - V8s), is nothing short of fantastic. Mal and Ben did an awesome job, they even removed the gear knob, machined the factory stick down by an inch and refitted it to the new shifter and you can't even tell that it has been out of the car (except fot the difference in hight). Changing gears now is a matter of leaving your arm resting in one spot on the console and flicking through the gears with the left wrist. Although I haven't owned a car with a Rip Shift I have driven ones that have and I feel that Mals is better. A big call and one likely to bring on the wrath of others but that is what I feel personally. If you are after a shifter you should really consider one of Mals. If you live within driving distance of Warwick visit the shop and get him or Ben to fit it. That way you can get it set up to suit you, ie shorter stick or bent slightly different. The added bonus is that you get to talk with Mal in person (he doesn't mind a chat). I said it all yesterday but Thanks again Mal and Ben and thanks for giving up your Saturday Cheers,Ken

I have one on my ute and after fixing the loose gearstick problem i cant fault them i have driven a couple of cars with rip shifter and they are alot tighter and require more force to get gears. I havent had any 2nd to 3rd shift dramas with mals unit at all..
