It sounds like a metallic rubbing noise that is quite prominent when it is cold. It is only there when the vehicle is under load. Light load when it’s cold, but requires more load with heat.Coming up a decent hill yesterday this noise was there for some time. Ambient was quite cool, boost gauge was around 2-3psi and auto was in top gear. Pulled car back into 3rd and the noise seemed to rise with the engine rpm.I’m guessing the torque converter? It started after I tried spooling up the turbo with my foot on the brake! Do these cars have a problem doing this? Also, after idling for a couple of minutes and the engine has been shut down you can still hear the turbo spinning. Is this normal? This sound is a similar rubbing/grinding noise as above only quieter.Your advise would be appreciated as Fords reply was “it’s under warranty, wait till it breaks”. Stalling it up won't do any damage, if anything quite the opposite thanks to the torque tags\abuse mode or whatever they call it.

I had a VL Turbo years ago that did the same thing, might even be a leak from the hoses or the exhaust manifold, they are notorious for the bolts coming loose but usualy make a hissing sound. Anyway like they said "It's Under Warranty"

Found out it was the heat shield in the stock exhaust. Removed it and it went away. It only happend under load. Dunno if this helps.

I have had Turbo Diesel 4WD's before and they sound far smoother to me.This afternoon coming home I paid a bit more attention to it. If on a hill with boost pressure showing on the gauge, the noise is there. Drop my foot off the go pedal, noise seems disappear in unisum with the needle falling. Apply throttle again, boost rises noise returns. This makes me think it's the turbo or something related to it.Can it sucking air somewhere possibly be making this sound? As you apply throttle to drive it up a slight step ie: concrete lip into a garage, the sound from the torque convertor sounds louder lately! I think anyone who has a BA/BF knows that sound. Fords answer is "that's as good as it gets"!

When vehicle is cold it surges badley between 1500 & 2000 rpm only. Once warm no surging at any rev/speed.
