Boost Leak

There's your problem then, the gauge musn't be holding that pressure. Try blocking off the gauge hose or remove the tee piece from the line and see if you get boost back.

the gauge not working or leaking isnt going to not give him boost, its just a gauge :laughing: and that little iddy biddy line isnt going to loose 18 pounds out of it.

nor would it leaking be enough for the BOV to stop working I wouldnt have thought.

I know I'm no boffin on hydraulics, but from my understanding it doesn't matter what size the hose is, if it doesn't hold pressure then the BOV won't work and it will bleed most or all of its boost. Since the Gauge is attached to the same line as the actuator hose for the BOV this hose needs to be completely sealed for it to provide the pressure on the piston in the opposite direction to the pressure in the crossover plumbing. If there is a leak from the small actuator hose then the pressure on the big side of the BOV is larger than the other side of the piston forcing it to open. I figured since the pressure in the actuator hose and the gauge hose are effectively the exact same pressure point (much the same way electricity works with voltage) then if the gauge is broken or there is a leak in this hose it will not hold.

But as citric suggested try re-flashing it.

I know what your saying mate, Obviously if he hasnt got enough boost to the back side off the BOV then its going to open but I think it would still have some boost not loose all of it... dont know..... without being able to look at it its a hard one to judge.

I think he would still will have a little of boost though.

I remember when I had this problem I had lost alot of boost but still had a bit more then factory.

If the BOV is open all the way then he will only have enough pressure that can't be bled out the size of the BOV big hole... the smaller the hole the more the pressure inside the manifold. It all depends how much air the BOV can actually vent. There will be some pressure there I imagine, but not enough to be noticible. Even with the intercooler hose half off I still had positive pressure in the manifold.

But I think he has a couple of things to try now to fix it... let us know how you go terebro

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I definitely have less power than factory - I may aswell have an F6 XT at the moment

F6Tornado and I are going to have a look tonight, so hopefully we'll get to the bottom of it.

I have a boost gauge, if you need it get gramps to call me..

Easy way to check if it is the BOV, just remove it. It will not hurt the turbo for a little drive, just don't give it WOT. You will be able to feel very quickly whether or not if that is what it is.

Check your manifold bolts are tight also - both inlet and exhaust!!

I dont know if I agree with you......probably because I'm wrong but I'll post my thinking just to check!!! The std bosch valve is reverse vented which means that boost acts against the side of the BOV piston and not from underneath like a conventional valve. Therefore the bosch valve it simply vacuum operated. For this reason if pressure from the "little hose" side (actuator hose is it?) ceases, then I'm not too sure if there would be much of a boost leak cos boost is acting on the side of the BOV piston. However there is still potential for it to open despite being reverse vented I guess?? anyway post your thoughts and straighten me out if need be. Cheers.
