Maybe its not just the right foot that causes such variation in the economy of these cars then. If there is so much variance in the T between runin mode and normal for AFRs, maybe this is another thing to keep an eye on when you get it serviced? Do ford usually check this? Caltex was clearly ahead of the other 98 fuels and made the most power of the three (10-12% gain) and the other two both tested and were found to be only 96RON.CAltex is the only fuel supplier to actively test its 98 fuels to make sure they are correct (ever seen those mobile fuel testing vans getting around with caltec on them).Niether BP nor Shell would comment on the results. The Ethanol Fuel was some independant supplier, can't remember the name. Also tested in the same car was 5 different race fues all of which were 100 RON or higher and they all made the same power together (some 30% gain over 95 RON). high quality stuff and all very consistent. The end result was that neither BP or Shell 98 was really 98, Caltex was the only true 98 fuel. And the highest performer was a small independent supplier.

Is there a body that does random checks and minimizes the risk to the consumer? Oil companies refine this fuel to correct levels, but Ive heard that hi octane fuel goes off quicker than standard fuel. I would be interested to know how long it takes fuel to degrade and how long it takes typically to get to the servo? Anyone have any idea?

So the results they saw were only valid for the time of purchase of those fuels, and can't be relied upon as authoritative.Shame really, there was a lot of potential there to get some good information out to the enthusiast public.
