Hi guys,

First of all just have to thank all you guys for providing such an informative site for the XR6T, was very reassuring to find such a positive site after forking out the hard earned!!

Anyway have had the BF (manual, couldnt convince myself on the auto) for about 5 months and it flys, but ive noticed that there is a lot of soot forming on the exhaust. My previous car was turbo and never had the soot at all after 4 years of driving and after five months I can hardly see the tip?? Is this because its running rich (my mechanical knowledge is basic at best if im way off) and its normal to produce this much soot? I have always run it on BP ultimate, does the T utilize this fuel properly or should I just go to 95ron? Being EuroIII compliant I would of thought these cars would be producing very limited amounts of soot, or am I just being altogether paranoid...?

I know that they have been tested stock and run a fat tune from the factory AFR's around 9

They all vary, some are 11's some are 10's some are 12's.

I have the soot problem too and according to Ford it is meant to run rich for the first few thousand kays. Whatever that is exactly?? Mines a Bionic BF, the bright blue colour so I notice the soot and it covers the rear lower bumper alot and looks ordinary. Some ppl use to call Shell optimax, Optisoot beacuse there cars were getting this soot problem. I dont know about that, I run whatever premium from the big names is available when the cars empty and I get it from all of them.

Thanks for the replies guys, so how come there is so much variance in the settings of these cars? I undestand that tolerances make all these cars behave differently but from 10s to 12s seems like a lot. Doesnt the computer have a fixed limit and then try to maintain this?

As for the soot appearing on the bumper I cant tell because mines black, but I can only assume looking at the exhaust that I have this problem as well. I did ask the dealer about this at the 3000 service and he also said that the computer has a runin mode but I thought that was BS... maybe not??

Id believe that the oboard computer would have a run in mode. I remember someone waying something about it in order to wear the engine in and protect it in its infancy. Plent of mechaical gurus on here that could confirm this.
