Hello All...

I'm looking for someone to help explain my ABS & TC warning lights. I've asked my local dealer but he's confusing me and/or hiding the truth...

Does anyone know what would cause my ABS & TC lights to come on and stay on?

I'm finding that at slow speed (10k's or less), even just calmly stopping or slowing down at an intersection my ABS is engaging, then the warning lights come on and stay on until the ignition is turned off and on.

The dealer at my last service (incidentally the week before the warranty ran out) told me that it was because one of my tires had worn unevenly???

Anyone who could shed some light on this for me would be much appreciated.

The uneven tyre wear sounds like a bunch of bull, just to satisfy you past your warranty.

The ABS, TCS system works with wheel speed sensors and brake fluid pressure sensors.

If any one of these sensors is malfunctioning the warning lights would come on.

It's a serious safety concern and I'd say the dealer should even now cover it under warranty.

I'm sure there are other reasons for the ABS warning lights to come on, but the sensors are probably the most fragile part of the system.

Write a letter to office of fair trading explaining that what is a serious safety concern was shrugged off by your dealer, even if it's a sensor fault it means that a real fault could develop and you'd be none the wiser.

Ask in your letter than the dealer recifies the problem completely under warranty as it was first brought to their attention whilst the car was under warranty and they refused to do anything about it.

Make sure you also forward on a copy of the letter to your dealer and you'll probably get looked after quick smart...

To put it bluntly after the inital start up check the ABS light should never light up regardless of other factors. So if it is lighting up it means there is a problem.

Have you had the brake rotors changed recently?

When my EF falcon went for new rotors they put the wrong type back on and the ABS light came up as soon as I got 20m down the road because the sensor couldn't see the marks on the inside.

He's totally right about it being serious sh*t, loosing ABS isn't too bad, but if TCS, traction control comes on when you don't want it too it could get a little awkward...even more awkward if the kids are in the car, your going around a roundabout in the wet, TCS comes on and lanches the rear quarter of your car into a pole....writing that letter sounds like a fair plan.

No rotors are standard... Think I'll try calling another dealer and try to get them to explain the "actual" scenario's that would cause the lights to come on then go down the path of nasty letters if I don't get anywhere....

Thanks for all your responses.
