Yes they are targets, mainly for rims and badges, then if they really wanna start pissin people off, they start grabbing spares outta the boot and if they are desperate enough for a hit, they even get into the car and have a look around too.. The phoon doesnt get parked anywhere where it is a high risk. Iv learnt with my prev SS that got de-rimmed the first night I bought it home (without the Expensive Daewoo locknuts I specifically ordered). They were brand new when the Y seriess SS's first came out, 18s with potenza tyres that had only done around 30km. :smilielol: But yeah, if it was my car, it would be garaged and alarmed..

Our cars are very easily stolen in 2 common ways which all involve the crook having access to the keys.

1. Break into your home for another purpose and find your keys and then take the car weather your there or not.

2. Crash into you while your driving and when you get out to exchange details you are car jacked.

Both involve the crook getting access to your keys. The immobilser and whatever other security you have, car alarm, steering wheel lock become absolutely errelevant and useless once the crook has your keys.

Its all fine and dandy to protect your car with all the gizmos in the world but you must also protect your car keys.

Here in the capital of stolen cars, Sydney, XR6T are showing up on the Hotlist (NSW stolen vehicle list) and on all occasions they have been stolen by the above two methods, with most being recovered burn out.

Crooks are not going to waste there time bypassing or deactivating immobilisers anymore.

And 3. a method that is becomming more frequent is the trusty car wash when they move your car down the line and through the stages to the end, then they give you a beep to come get it and then someone else jumps in it, with the engine and all running and ultimately drives away in your pride andjoy.

You ask for thought and mine go like this,

If you have a car that someone else envys it can be a target. I have the only GT in my region of 30,000 people and am I worried about leaving it parked on the road or in town, well no, I could wrap it up in cotton wool but I bought it to enjoy it and if someone decides to damage or steel it, I cant do much about that.

I think comprehensive car insurance equals piece of mind. that's probably why we all have it these days.

One more tip, dont leave your lock nut key in the car.they WILL find it.

I carry mine in my pocket.this is a real pain but better than finding the T up on bricks.

Just dont forget to carry it.

If you must keep it in the car, hide it really well.not in the console or with the jack.try somewhere like under a kick panel or under the carpet or something.
