One more tip, dont leave your lock nut key in the car.they WILL find it.

I carry mine in my pocket.this is a real pain but better than finding the T up on bricks.

Just dont forget to carry it.

If you must keep it in the car, hide it really well.not in the console or with the jack.try somewhere like under a kick panel or under the carpet or something.

ummmmmmmmmmm....

id probably want it in the car if I blew a tyre or had to change the tyre at 3am in the middle of nowhere.. :police:

Dave

yes I know that.Carry it in your pocket or hide it really well is what I'm saying.locknuts wont put them off if they can find the key.smashing them off is noisy, not what they want.

Our cars are very easily stolen in 2 common ways which all involve the crook having access to the keys.

1. Break into your home for another purpose and find your keys and then take the car weather your there or not.

2. Crash into you while your driving and when you get out to exchange details you are car jacked.

Both involve the crook getting access to your keys. The immobilser and whatever other security you have, car alarm, steering wheel lock become absolutely errelevant and useless once the crook has your keys.

Its all fine and dandy to protect your car with all the gizmos in the world but you must also protect your car keys.

Here in the capital of stolen cars, Sydney, XR6T are showing up on the Hotlist (NSW stolen vehicle list) and on all occasions they have been stolen by the above two methods, with most being recovered burn out.

Crooks are not going to waste there time bypassing or deactivating immobilisers anymore.

Just another reason why I'll never live in Sydney again!

Sorry dude, I know it's a nice place, spent a fair bit of my 20's romping around there. When the Woolamaloo was still a Sailors Pub anyway.

The theft of our much loved XR6T's is not a pleasant one.

I keep mine garaged as much as possible. Keeps salty air off it as well. I try and be sensible where I park it when going out, cause I feel in some instances the decison you make about where you park your car might be the difference as to whether it gets damaged/broken into/ stolen. By the same token, I don't want to be one of those people who fretts everytime the car is left unattended.

The issue about thieves getting the keys is the reason why I always take my keys with me if the car is parked up at home. At least the two are physically apart which puts my mind at ease to some extent.

The comment about accidents and car jacking is one I never thought of but an alarming one. I used to drive a wrx and it was pretty scary at the time when they were getting carjacked in sydney a little while back.

I really hope my beautiful car never collides with anything (including shopping trolleys!!!!)

lock nuts dont do anything try a 9/16th socket or equivelant and wack the f*ck out of it in the lock nut and turn with a ratchet and bobs your uncle lock nut comes off. had to do it when I lost my lock nut key.

Yes I'v done this to cars at work, but the scumbags who knock wheels off dont want to make too much noise,so they may look elsewhere.

never badly damaged, never stolen, I keep the keys in my pocket all the time, even at home, the spare key is in a locked drawer at work in a locked room and the key to that is in a locked cupboard lol and the only keys to that is in my car

Hence the reason Iam considering debadging the T so the intercooler is the only give away that its a Turbo. Put it this way, if you were a feral f*ck car thief, would you steal an XR6 or the XR6 Turbo next to it....

I have never heard of a BA-BF being stolen without the crook, stealing the keys first simple as that. And even that is a rear occasion........

A 22mm socket with 1 good hit go right over the ford lock nut, as far as noise is concerned they'll just use a rubber mallet to hit it on. Went out the other night and came back to find a kid about 16 squatting behind my car with something in his hand. Just put some new FPV 19's, not sure if he was trying to get my rims or just hiding behind my car but I bet he'll have a nike imprint in the side of his head for a few days.
