The oil companys and the us government and sadam.

oh and malcom frazer.

one of the main reasons we are paying so much is sadam setting fire to the kuait oil fields if u guys remember the first iraq war that's when the price went up at first.

in the 80s malcom frazer sighed an oil embargo that set aussie prices to be the same as world wide oil price so australian oil refined in australia that should cost 80cpl is 140cpl as is the world market.

the australian government gets the tax from these companys due to there high profits so they are happy then they slap on exise and gst.

A TAX ON A TAX this is a nother way we get screwed.

can u guys remember when jhonny said the gst wouldnot be a tax on a tax but a new tax system <lol> .

they are kicking themselvs in the ass because as the price of petrol goes up people will be more inclined to do more research into alternatives to oil and gas

imagine a hydrogen powered xr6t or even meth or ethanol/nitro methane we dont need petrol.

as it is I dont mind paying 140 150 but 200 is insane double the running cost we would see rioting in the streets.

just my 2 cents.

Although I'm taking this a bit off topic, that was the initial concept before the dumb ass democrats got involved and now we have this debarcle of a GST system instead of abolishing most other taxes and applying a flat 10% across the board.

But anyway, back to the bowser debate.........

Time to move to Venezuela I think.... :spit:

It's from CNN but I'm not sure how accurate it is when you look at Australia.....

Gas prices around the world

Think you pay a lot for gas? Perhaps you'd prefer to live in Venezuela.

Gasoline prices in the United States, which have recently hit record highs, are actually much lower than in many countries. A few countries, like Venezuela have prices that are far lower.

Gas pains The main driver of price disparities between countries is government policy, according to AirInc, a company that tracks the cost of living in various places around the world. Many European nations tax gasoline heavily, with taxes making up as much as 75 percent of the cost of a gallon of gasoline, said a spokesperson for AirInc.

In Venezuela, on the other hand, oil is produced by a government-owned company and local gasoline prices are kept low as a benefit to the nation's citizens, he said. All prices updated May, 2004.

I dont know what these prices are meant to be but I just spoke to a friend of mine who was working in Denmark... He was paying 7.48 DKK per litre which is $1.68 AUD (for 95ron).. far from the $5.08 they claim in the table :pooh:

This price is from a year ago.

Except that the prices in this are per gallon which is 3.785412 L so $1.86x3.785412 = $7.04.

Also with the comment about Diesels a few pages back is a bit out of date. A modern direct injection 3L V6 Turbo diesel (such as the one avalible in the 300C in europe) puts out a mere 160kw but over 510nm and uses about 8L/100 in a car the same size and weight as the T.

So with its immense low rpm torque it would give performance somewhere between the XR6 and an XR6T whilest using a bit over half the fuel. And modern diesels on proper low sulpher fuel put ot far less polution than before, as well as about 25% less CO2 (major green house gas) than petrol powered cars.

Yes diesel is more expensive than it used to be but most performance cars, even cars like a Mazda 6 specify PULP so the cost difference is erroded.

But today LPG is the best way to save $$$.

Isn't the price of LPG going to rise substantially though due to an excise adjustment or something? Or has that already happened?

There was an interesting chart in the courier mail today, stating that fuel has risen 291% since 1980. In the same period milk has risen 271%, weekly wage has risen 359%, house price has risen 700% & CPI has risen 230%. On the other hand the price of crude has risen 164% ($A) in the same period.

So although it is a big jump, it's not that significant in the bigger picture - perhaps the it's fact that we have just had it so good for quite a while that makes it seem to be such an impact. :idunno:

I have been too ashamed to keep track of the price of LPG. :pooh:

About a year and a half ago I sold my wifes mint condition EA S on LPG for an AUII Fairmont wagon, the AU uses about 14L (petrol at $1.40) around town and the EA used about 12L (LPG 57c). :msm:

Over that time petrol has gone up about 40c and LPG about 4c..... :spit:
