I feel the pain but there is some light at the end of the tunnel.  Jim at Tunehouse (SYDNEY) has done the work to my car and I am very happy.  The car is running as economical as a stocker and has run a 12.2 sec quarter ... power level is whatever you guys can calculate,estimate, whatever...

I have got to hand it to you fill, you have stuck to your guns and put the effort inat WSID but you did not give Jim a chance to tune the car.

I will let you know when I am heading out there ...

When you say the power level is whatever we can estimate, what does this mean. What power did Jim tell you that the car had? What sort of dyno does Tunehouse use?

Jim from Tunehouse is running a rather unique Dyno setup, have you heard of 'Dynapaks' or something to that effect? instead of the roll-on-roll-off type this setup incorporates a linked system where an individual module is mounted onto the wheels hub (wheel removed)

I'd only ever seen this unit in an old High Octane DVD, until checking out the Tunehouse Workshop.

The Dynopack dynos are used by some of the worlds larger performance shops and race teams. The NASCAR guys use them, the V8 Brute are all tested with them, MRT, and I think the PAC boys use them as well.

They bolt onto your hubs, no artificial losses via trying to move the huge rolling rods (think Inertia!), no wearing out your tyres, no fudging the figures depending on how the car is strapped down! The ability to hold the car at a certain RPM and tune fuel,spark and boost provides the optimum tuning environment.

Unfortunately this real time tuning is not available when you only run Edit. I have an edit and a Haltech interceptor. This allows the best of both worlds. Edit for the adjustment of the ECU's key parameters, idle, rpm, shift points, adaptive learning etc etc and the Haltech for real time tuning, while the car is running on the dyno. All the actual fine tuning on my car of Fuel, spark and boost is done in real time...

The Edit tuning process is a little more cumbersome... 1. Change some parameters in the software/PC, 2. upload it into the box, 3. upload it in the car, 4. run it on the dyno, 5. check results ... Need changes? Start at step one again. This process takes a minimum of about 5 - 10 minutes every time you want to make an adjustment to the tune. So how many actual incrmental changes can you make in an hour ? Think about it! ...

Back to the Dynopack ... The only downside is that it takes a minimum of about 20 minutes to get the car setup on the Dyno do a couple of runs and then take it off.

Do not laugh at the VW Bug, it runs nitrous and has run 10s ! ... Jim is involved with some very interesting projects.

ETs and MPH then... what should I get given that I've been dyno'd at 292rwkw with Edit only on a Dynologic dyno at Nizpro?? My power curve overlays the stock curve almost exactly until about 2800rpm where it leaps about 100rwkw in the space of about 500rpm.

Now I ask this of course, because if I ever get to the track and run a slower time than what anyone says I should, I'm certainly not going to tell anyone about it.

The problem is Sav that your car is a manual so the times will be very slow compared to the same power with an auto.Nizpro's ute lost 0.9 of a second and 6 mph when they converted it from auto to manual so the whole take it to the track to prove the power out put is a some what flawed argument.

I was just yesterday trying to explain this to a guy from work and he just would not believe me... he just couldn't get his head around the fact that the auto's are about a second quicker (pound for pound) over the standing quarter when you start modding them...

Now its not just manual to autos that are faster.If you have a better auto or the same auto with a high stall this then changes the speed and mph as well,add to this different tyres a different driver and a different power curve even if the same peak number is the same and you should now have no problem understanding that quater times just dont prove how much power you have, they just prove if your car is set up better than the next guy

An update to this thread...

I am going to make this short & sweet.

Had the valve springs done and actuator changed. Retuned to 303rwkw??

Ran the car at WSID to see how she runs. The results and dyno can be seen in 1/4 miles times and details later tonight.

Result-

12.2@115mph. 1.977 60ft.

I was over the moon with the 60ft time as I was running street tires ($150 Kuhmo's) and stock convertor.

I was a little dissapointed though in the mph. Seems like 115 is more consistent with around 280rwkw.

12.2 is not bad considering it was with crap tires, stock convertor, pump fuel.

I am getting happier with my tuner here but still awaiting the true test.. program three on the edit is just waiting for HPF to see what they can do on the BVW2.

What boost are you running now and are the racetronixs doing the job? Do you have the latest dyno graph?

I must be missing something 'cause I just can't see how anyone could say that you should be running XXmph on XX rwkw. Surely two tunes pumping out the same max power could produce hugely different mph depending on varying levels of low to midrange power levels.
