Sorry if this is a stupid question but do you need the capa flasher to get your car tuned. Lets say I do modifications like IC and exhaust etc and I dont have the edit do I have to buy it and then get it tuned or can they tune the car if you just take it in to a tune shop?

Nesh

you need at least a piggy back to trick the factory computer... best bet is to buy the edit so you can get straight into the factory computer.... so the short answer is no you cant just drive into a shop and get a tune and drive out.... you need an aftermarket chip or the edit... with the edit you can alter factory settings... without the edit or a chip you cant do anything:spoton:

I've heard from a few reputable soucres now that a new option will be available in the near future. This will enable you to do exactly as you mention above and have the tuner just tune your car with whatever mods you have. Of course, using this option won't allow you to have different maps, but many people don't see this as a negative and want a "go-fast" tune only.

And for all the smart :nono: 's - it won't be here in 2 weeks - or will it?? :spoton:

that's correct

that's already available but requires the tuner to drill a hole (yes a hole) inot your pcm so that he can plug in something to tune your pcm via his lap top....

drill a hole in my PCM?? dont think so :nono:

I cant remember... there is a link to the tuner/product on this site somewhere (if someone knows where the link is please post it).... the tuner has developed the product himself. Basically he gets into the ford pcm via drilling a hole into the computer, attaching a lead into it, and then adjusts settings just as we do with the edit via his laptop.

I believe the edit flashbox is one of the great advantages we have over the standard GM type edit. It gives you choices to swap the tune for bad fuel, services etc. You cannot lose your tune by having an updated FoMoCo tune flashed over the top of it, as you can always download again from the flashbox.

If the factory upgrade is inadvertently flashed into your Holden/HSV at service time, then most guys (who haven't bought the tuning software for themselves) would have to go back to the tuner to get a reflash.

On the flipside, it takes the tuned a lot longer to tune as the new settings have to be downloaded into the flashbox and then into the car.

More choices in tuning products will be available soon which will ultimately benefit us, the enthusiasts. :stirthepot:

I'm not sure we're talking about the same product. The one I'm referring to has been having good results with the LS1's for some time now.
