Auto XR6T in a lighter colour.

The new 6 speed will make it frugal, a lighter colour will be roughly 2 degree's cooler in direct sunlight on a hot day (it does make a difference, its simple physics)...

Then get an Edit, and at the same time get a fuel economy tune as well..... You'll end up with a 250rwkw tune for the weekends, as well as a fairly normal, but fuel efficient tune for your working days....

Re this "Well I dont know about Goulburn Highway patrol but the rest of them arnt a bad bunch. If your doing 200 clicks and you get a fine for it, then obviously you might disagree with me."

If you are doing 200kmh in 110kmh zone you deserve what you get, no argument.

However 130/140kmh in excelent road conditions (with an good car and 35 years of driving experience in all conditions + Advanced Driver course) is quite reasonable but of course the RTA has to lower the spead limit to the lowest common  :fool: denominator    and the (Goulbourn)   highway patrol cops relish anyone over the limit.

(BTW I have a General Duties long time Ex-cop friend and he agrees with me that Highway patrol cops are the lowest). And to add to my comments, General Duties cops I have the greatest respect and support for, I take my hat of to those guys.

They are the greatest.

When I see them on the street I thank them for what they do.

Anyway... Not the topic for another forum.

Thanks for the comments so far.re the XR5T/XR6T. even though I like the XR5 Turbo for its size and utility I think the shear necessity of solid car with space, comfort good cruise control in the XR6 Turbo is probably the way to go.

I even thought of a Turbo Territory, but driving a current model V6 Escape down to Canberra and back during the strong winds of week before , well it was like driving a barn down down the highway. The fuel guage had a race with the speedo to see if it could reach the end first and the car with the big flat sides of the Escape was weathercocking all over the place. Geeze one tank of fuel for a one way trip...... YUK  :kissmy:  Appreciate it was an extreme situation but nonetheless pointed out what wil be happenging during the winter spring wind period.

So I think the Turbo Territory would be the same, whilst saying it is a a good city car or holiday tourer, or Mums taxi.. to use it to run backwads and fowards between Sydney and Canberra for work.. Well there will be at least 1.5* lease payment of fuel costs on top of the lease... Bit much also considering the flag fall for Turbo T is $65K+.

I need a more solid, aerodynamically slippery car and something more fuel efficient just to get me to and from work than a current escape or turbo territory, hence the XR5/XR6 questions.

Thanks for all the comments

Harpoon.

I think the frustration of dealing with the highway patrol is misguided. We all fear the end result of being detected exceeding the speed limit and the penalties imposed, that being fines, demerit points loss and a possible licence suspension. All of these are imposed by the RTA not the NSW Police Highway Patrol. If the fine for speeding was $1 it would still be issued, it just happens that the RTA sets the fines and everything else at much greater amounts.

I dont dispute your driving ablility or your cars ability to travel at speeds at far greater than 110KPH, but I do doubt the abiliity of novice drivers, L's and P's, drink drivers who are using the roads, unexpected cows/sheep/cattle and wildlife that may use the road and may cause a crash and heavy vehilces that cannot see you coming, while there restricted to only 100KPH. Its not always about your good or bad driving skills, its about the poor skills of others which you me and everyone on here sees every day.

Must remember this next time I see the highway patrol with a speed camera or laser on a clear straight dual lane Highway stretch of road, in the middle of the day, in clear sunshine, with only one or two cars on the clear straight dual lane Highway stretch of road, in the middle of the day, in clear sunshine.

OK to get back on topic, I've doen the trip to and from Sydney to Canberra numerious times, I'm also one of those ppl who set and forget the cruise control...

As a car for doing long trips the XR6's are probably the way to go, they are comfy to sit in for long hauls (in the last month I did 2 long trips, one from Canberra to the Goldcoast and back and Canberra - Melbourne - Canberra) and I was very comfy sitting in the XR6T...

Fuel wise I usually get around 9L/100KM, (using PULP, using normal ULP it's less) and can easily do a return trip on a single tank, plus a bit to spare for around town driving, and considering your coming from the outer edge of Sydney you'd prob do better than that again.

As others have said the XR5T is so far an unknown, but no cruise control would probably send you crazy after a little while...

PS I also agree with you on the notion that you could easily do 130km/h - 140km/h on the Hume, there is nothing to hit, good quailty duel carrage all the way from Sydney to Canberra, and apart from the L and P platters who are forced to do 80Km/h (which I think is crazy on the Hume) everyone else tends to average 115km/h to 120km/h anyway...

Depends on how much importance you put on ceratin criteria. If you want comfort then get neither. Get a Fairmont or sumin as the XR's have harder suspension and less profile tyres.

If you wana have a 'tough' car get the XR6T :nono:

The only downside would be the amount of fuel you'll go through compared to the Focus. The best I've got was 10.5 litres per 100 between River Road (M5 turn on) to Tuggeranong.

Oh and :Imwifhim:

Did you get this drafting a semi, or did you have a stiff gale blowing from behind the whole way?

Harpoon, I didn't buy my T for it's fuel economy, otherwise I'd be pulling my hair out by now. Make no mistake, the T will guzzle fuel at the same rate as a fat chick scoffing cupcakes. If you are used to your Escape fuel gage chasing the odo you will have good practice already in watching the same in a T. I find 14.5L/100Kms is pretty standard for this car and more around town (A lot more!).

I would never, repeat, never own a little car, I'll give up drinking beer before I start complaining about fuel prices. :msm:

So if all of these conditions apply then you should be entitled to drive at whatever speed you want. Once again its not just about you and your mistakes its that of others.

Hey Harpoon,

Good to see you found this neck of the woods too! :buttonit:

I drive an XR6T and u simply can't fault it for long distance driving, as much as it kills me to say it (as someone who runs an XR5T site) if you are going to need cruise you can't go wrong with big bro.

That said, the XR5T is going to be a cheaper car to run on the freeway... all depends on whether you can survive without cruise. There will be aftermarket solutions to the cruise problem methinks.

You'll be happy with either choice methinks. :fool:

I really look forward to Motor's final PCOTY rounds which will include the XR6T (auto and manual), F6 Phoon and the XR5T.

Cheers,

Miyagi
