I'm not really fussed with the trip down. I guess it all depends on if we hane any melbournites joining us. If we do - I GUESS its polite to drive down and greet them then get on the boat and go over.......I did say GUESS.....

I'm still not 100% sure if I'm going from devonport - melbourne - adelaide - 8 hour drive.....or going devonport - sydney - home - farm - adelaide - 15+ hour drive :hrmm:

Im thinking its not a good idea to leave Ken in tears before her holidays over. SWMBO's a strong girl...but that Ken's a reall blubber baby

The owners of the Spirit of Tasmania III, being the Sydney to Devenport run, put a proposal to the Tasmanian Government reccomending that the boat be sold as they were losing tonnes of money. The Tasmanian government realised that they were infact making a profit from people who arrived and travelled Tasmania and therefore have thrown millions at the boat company to ensure it keeps operating until about 2011.

More people who go over on the boat stay longer and spend more money than those who fly over for a few days, so the boat and its Sydney run is here to stay.

The Tasmanian Government today announced that the Sydney-Devonport Spirit of Tasmania III service would be withdrawn from operation this year.

Unfortunately, a predicted downturn in domestic tourism and rising operational costs has meant the service is no longer viable. The last sailing for Spirit of Tasmania III will be Sydney to Devonport on Sunday 27 August 2006.

Spirit of Tasmania will commence contacting affected passengers on Tuesday 6 June 2006 to offer refunds or alternative travel arrangements.

Our Spirit of Tasmania III passengers will be given the option of transferring to the Melbourne/Devonport service at our discounted Ship Saver rate, however the fare will attract the more lenient conditions of our Ship Flexi fare.

Alternatively if passengers cancel their travel arrangements with Spirit of Tasmania, they will receive a full refund. The usual cancellation fees will not apply.

If you have any questions in the meantime please contact our telephone sales team on 1800 777 462.

We ask for your patience during this time as we make this transition and we apologise for any inconvenience. Thank you for your support.
