Yep count me in. I'd say Drive to Melbourne from Sydney. Have a day/night to meet all the Melbourne forum members and have any Melbourne members that are coming to Tassie join us.

I'd say the way home for Sydneysiders should be to catch the ferry direct back to Sydney. Too long a trip home to do Devonport/Melbourne/Sydney etc.

7 months gives me time to start burning appropriate cruise CD's woohoo

Hi Ken,

An idea I was thinking about was asking to see if there was any interest amongst potential Tassie cruisers in having 2 groups go across on 18 Nov. The first group is the 2 week group and the 2nd one are the tight ones (tight for time that is  not arses)? I don't know what the 2 week route looks like, but maybe if 2 groups did exist, maybe the 2nd group that goes over for possibly 4-5 days can meet up with the first group either doing common routes or occassionally rendezvousing at places.

I'm raising this out of self-interest because I'd like to go, but I'd prefer to go for a shorter period than 2 weeks. But I don't want to only do half the island with you guys and then miss out on the rest of it because I leave near the end of the 1st week. I'd still rather do a trip that takes in the popular attractions whilst I'm there. Maybe a solution is to design the route and activities so that several popular roads / attractions are done in the first week and then the remaining group can continue with other roads and other major attractions?

In the back of my mind is also the possibility of negotiating a good price on the Spirit of Tasmania if there is a larger group buying return tickets (even though we come back on different dates). Though this may not be relevent if people are leaving Sydney and Melbourne to go to Devonport.

I guess the biggest drawcard for you is that by doing this may help get a larger number of cars on the cruise at the beginning.

Anybody have any comments on this?

Ok, so a couple of points here:

1. It's a long way off and we haven't finalised the route(s) yet.

2. SOT don't do group discount bookings ... we've tried! :spit:

3. The Tassie cruises have always been designed to accommodate people who want to stay for any period and join and leave as they wish. :gooff:

I like the idea of meeting up with folks in Melbourne prior to the SOT departure, as I was last time. I'm not sure that experienced Tassie cruises will want to postpone the trip to the island (by 1 night) though, being soooo close, by that stage we're usually like a bunch of excited school kids! :w00t:

Let's put the route together and post it (later) and you can decide whether it suits your purposes. :spit:

... watch this space ...

Those 2 points look good to me. :pooh:
