coil pack is something I have not changed but certainly considered (since they have been unplugged a number of times now this would not be totally unfesiable). I would like to be a little more certain before going out and trying to replace all of the coil packs (can't imagine that would be cheap).

check for damadged wires going to the coil packs.

I'm no expert by a long shot, but have also had problems with coil leads in 2 previous cars, an old Charade (not proud ok) and recently in an AUII Fairmont.

Had to plant the accelerator to get anything from them and started out very infrequently, then would disappear for some time only to re-appear when I began to get confident it was some dodgy fuel or an evil gremlin had disappeared.

It then got to the point where it was happening 95% of the time and driving me crazy, Ford missed it on my first complaint only to get it sorted when I couldn't take it anymore.

The coil leads/pack can play some funny arse games and I would highly recommend you check these out going by the problems you've listed.

An AU is a little different.

They run a 6 point coil pack with actual spark plug leads running off it to the plugs.

The BA has an individual coil over plug setup.

An ignition problem is a possibility...

Take the crossover pipe off and coil cover and look for any problems with the wiring. Of course to test the coils themselves you'll need more professional help.

They diagnosed my faulty coil pack by plugging the computer into the OBD port and then me taking them for a drive. As soon as the car started mis firing, he saw the issue with the number 2 coil pack. Back to the workshop and 20 minutes later all sweet. Hasn't missed a beat again. It is pretty simple for Ford to check the spark using their little handheld tool.

Could be worth ago?? :beerchug:

a coil pack is not going to cause a lack of power as such. if it fails you will get a lack of power, but its also gonna have a solid missfire. I would suggest hooking up a vac guage & see what is happeneing first. when the fault occurs is nice to see how much boost you are getting. also try scanning ecu for codes, might be one stored.
