But John Howard doesn't seem to care how high the petrol prices go because he just profits with the extra money he gets from the taxes.Yes and no... the GST that is collected on fuel is returned back to the states and the fuel excise that equates to about 1/3 of our petrol price in no longer indexed against inflation (meaning it doesn't go up automatically) which is good... that happened a couple of years ago... the problem with higher petrol prices is that it has a huge effect on every household budget, regardless of whether you are single/married/kids or whatever... the money for fuel has to come from somewhere and it usually means it has to come from other areas of the houehold...Jack Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
