Just wanna start off by saying G'day. I currently own a 94 wrx and have had it since new, Looking at getting an xr6 turbo in the near future and getting peoples thoughts.

Have been looking at the performance packages from various tuners and was interested in The Horsepower Factory Packages.

I liked the Stage 1 320kw at the flywheel which I think is very good for every day and also an exhuast, gotta hear the motor.

Question are there many people out there with this type of mod or even modded by HPF?

Also how many kays a tank are people getting from stock set up and lightly modded xr6t's?

No reliablilty problems?

Auto better?

Prefer manual but concerned about box strenghth or should be ok?

Thanks

Most the T's on the forum would have atleast 300-320 fwkw with just the EDIT alone, many have much much more.

The new 6 speed auto is the only way to go (IMO), its both faster and stronger.

Fuel economy varies on the tune, but on average most get slightly better fuel economy when mildly modded, probably around 10l per 100k on the highway, too hard to give city figures cause it depends how you wanna drive, can be 12l per 100k going to church on sunday or 20l per 100k painting black stripes on the road.

Hope this helps,

Hey egg...

There is quite a few boys here who have gone through HP-F and got excellent results... geea (a member here and moderator) being the fastest of them currently having run a 10.6 quarter mile at 128MPH... and his car is a 4spd auto and still a daily driver!!

My car was edited last week by Nizpro, they are a little bit more expensive than HP-F... and it managed 270rwkw, not exactly sure what that equates to at the flywheel... but 270 is an excellent result from an edit only...

Also how many kays a tank are people getting from stock set up and lightly modded xr6t's?

I was getting around 450km's per tank before the edit and am still on the same tank of fuel from when I got the edit done but am looking to get around the same still... which I am really pleased about!!

Are you looking at getting a BA or BF? If you want a manual and are planning to mod then the 6 speed T56 is the only way to go... as the T5 (BA series 1) doesn't cope too well with too many performance mods... and if you looking at auto then the 4spd auto can be built to cope with a lot more power. The auto's are also faster over the qtr than the manuals too...

Hope this helps mate! Anymore questions... don't hesitate to ask!!

as stated.. T5 or BA mk1, keep clear! If you get a BA either go the 4spd auto of the 6sp manual. My preference would be the manual... I prefer manuals. In saying that however, if you're going the BF... well I'd do a back flip and get the 6sp auto!! Simon from xtreme ford tuning has got some great results from a stock BF 6sp auto and edit only... But then again the choice is yours... either way the 6sp manual has proven itself to be able to cope with generour power increase, the 6sp auto might be a little new still... but time will tell!

So far sounds pretty good, but am a bit concerned about people with hoses and clamps coming off and turbo bolts loose and also other clunks. Hope that's not across the board. Those getting 320kw with just the edit and no exhaust sounds good. But I would like to know if the exhausts are quiet. Theres a nice motor in there I would like to hear. Apart from that all sounds pretty good so far :spoton: .

Dont worry to much at this stage, try just the edit first I think you will be quite surprised how different the car feels and reacts after the edit.

The car does sound different even with out changing the exhaust after the edit (More boost etc)

Second on the list possibly a 2ed CAI typhoon style and a K&N filter. Cheap mod

Best of all they are all reversable :spoton:

If you go the auto BF dont do a thing cept edit it unless you are wanting to do injectors. If no injectors then edit only :spoton: Its a 12 second car easily

Alot of members on here have cars tuned by HPF, me included. They consistently build quick cars, which is more important than just achieving big dyno figures.

You can either go for a full package or pick the best bits from the respective performance houses and get them to make it all work for you.

There's nothing wrong with BA mk1s per se. Some of the very early ones had brake shudder dramas apparently and some manuals had diff clunk issues...but my auto has been faultless.

I didn't mean it to sound as if there is something wrong with the mk1... I have an 2004 mk1 T5... simply saying that if you are gonna mod, you should stay clear of the mk1 because it has the T5 manual. only said it because he said he'd prefer a manual, in which case the mk2 or BF would be the option.
