Guys. thought I'd share how to get the best out your manual..

For some who are struggling, Here's some tips I have come accross thru practice, practice, practice.

I'm not an expert, but have managed 12.80 @ 116mph from under 300rwkw in a T56 with Dunlops undrneath 2 tonnes of ute.... nothing I don't think anyone else has done???? Turbocorty went 13.2 in a stock sedan, but sedans a 200kg's lighter and has IRS ( I'll take any excuse :glad: )

Firstly, burn the Dunlops.......... then, when you have some decent rubber,

1.) Load up the revs on launch, don't be afraid. Slide the clutch out, don't drop the right foot. Control wheelspin with the clutch and accel. Glide it out of the hole. ( I launch on the street at 4300rpm )

2.) Change into 2nd gear at 4500rpm NO LATER. 4000rpm-4300rpm is best. It's pretty tricky if you nail the launch, because revs come up quickly.. Gets the engine back in peak torque land..

3.) from 2nd gear, it's a progression. Change into the next gear NO LATER than 4500rpm. I find 4300rpm to be great.

4.) Use as minimal clutch pedal travel as possible. Time spent dropping the clutch pedal is time spent coasting. If you can, get the pedal adjusted right up to the top so all you have to do it pad the pedal. Small quick taps are what you want..

Do not rev your cars to redline. It's a complete waste. Your not making power, you get out of the torque band and you aren't going forward..

Keep it between 3500rpm + 4500rpm for the whole trip down the track and you'll be laughing.

Note. I smoked the clutch in mine tonight, so you may want to ignore what I just typed.................. :pooh::msm: oh, and I can't load up on the handbrake, so don't go telling me that's quicker, coz it just buzzes my clutch, or goes up in wheelspin....

This works for me, anyway....... take it with a grain of salt, call me a fool or try it out. Let us know how you go..

Thanks for the tips mate. For me the trick is the balancing act of clutch and throttle off launch in it's prime boost band. I need to learn to control my adrenalin and ease into it rather that thinking half track ahead of myself :D

as for advice I use the handbrake so its a different technique.

Sorry for the confusion.

Wouldnt using the handbrake cost you a few tenths off the line?

The theory, and general practice is to pull up the handbrake, then get the clutch to take up. Build up the revs, take up the clutch and the car builds boost while under 'load'. Just like an auto.

Problem is, the clutch cops a hammering. You have to drop the handbrake, get on the revs and drop the clutch.

Mike work in a sedan with IRS, it squats.. but the live axle utes, from my experience don't like it. Or I just can't get the hang of it and dismiss it as gobblygook. yeah, prolly that :laughing:

Its all in the 60ft, get that down and you are well on your way...

1. Decent tyres (Drag Radials, not street tyres)

2. Good Launch (Slipping the clutch while maintaining revs)

3. Diff Ratio

All these will contribute to good 60ft times.

The rest will take care of itself...more or less, just dont miss any gears ;)

Oh......and practice, practice, practice :blush:
